If you like the ocean life, this is the museum for you. It is set up in a very traditional style with tons of information. Be prepared to spend half a day with lots of reading. The most interesting part is the historic building's cage elevator, which you can take a ride in.

We were in the Empress hotel, when we saw a replica of an old sailing vessel, and found out that there was a maritime museum just up the street. So we decided to take it in, (this is the very first maritime museum I've ever been to and it was well worth it).
They have the old courthouse elevator there,(the bird cage elevator) including the remains of an old historical courtroom. , You can see an early 1900's canoe/ sailing vessel that sailed around the world, (the Tilikum). As well as many ship models, pic., seaman's kit, diving equipment, cannons, old luggage used in traveling by steamers. The list goes on.
You will be surprised at what you can see around the next corner...

This place is amazing and it is worth the visit and the time. The location is also spectacular. Learn about the building as well and visit the court room. Knowledgeable and passionate staff.

Having seen the new Maritime Museum in Hamburg and a couple of others in the world, including Barcelonafive stars, but I liked it better than the Halifax Maritime Museum.

The displays are regional, though well texted and interesting. The building is an old admiralty court and very cool.

For people interested in seafaring and ships, definitely worth a visit!

Prepare to read & see some amazing maritime artifacts. I was slightly disappointed I didn't see any strange movement in the courtroom, but all in all...it's place to visit.
