A bit different from a run of the mill hotel room. We had a kitchen area with all the amenities you need a living room and a bedroom on a mezzinine level. lots of space. Our room faced the back and had a small balcony too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

We really liked this hotel. Our 4 night stay was the first week of July. We had 3 Adults in a 2-bedroom, 2 level unit with kitchen. Didn't really use the kitchen and did have to pay extra to park our car down the block. But the location is good and we liked the pub restaurant. Only note is that some units have the bathroom on the bottom floor with bedrooms on 2nd floor......but they changed us to one with bath on same level as bedrooms - so that worked. Plenty of space and good amenities. Someone always at front desk to help out. Good deal if you have 2 couples or need 2 rooms. The sea gulls calling were the only thing that woke us up in the morning; we had to open the windows since there is no air conditioning in this climate. None of the two bedroom units are over the pub (according to the front desk person).

Room Tip: Ask about air conditioning if you have any health issues, especially if you go during potential heat...

This was our second visit to the hotel. Again, we stayed in a lofted apartment, complete with kitchen. The rooms are quite large with a balcony. Bathrooms were clean with high end toiletries. Staff were helpful. My only concern was with the noise level in this particular room (304). There's an industrial vent/exhaust that is just outside the windows on both floors...gave us the sensation that we were in a jetliner. Also, most of the channels on the digital tv were not viewable (not part of their cable package). Bathrooom is on first floor, so a late night visit will require a trip down the stairs. Not sure we will return to the Swan on our next visit....there are better values around the harbor.

This hotel does a number of things very well. The rooms are big enough for most travelers and the kitchens are a great touch. The two restaurants -- one a pub/restaurant and the other a more upscale restaurant -- were both very good (and very popular). The food was excellent and the wait staff was very helpful. The location isn't center city, but it's close to everything in the old town and only a 15-minute walk from the primary waterfront action. Plus, a wonderful waterfront walkway is just five minutes away. The only drawback is the view of an abandoned building and lot on one side of the hotel, but that wasn't a big issue for us.

And, yes, there's some nice original art on the walls everywhere.

For the price, I can't imagine you can get a better value in Victoria.

Room Tip: Rooms that face Pandora Street have the best view.

We stayed at Swans Suite for a weekend. We were a group of four adults who needed three sleeping areas. This place was the only one I found who could do that at a reasonable price without requiring two separate rooms. It was really more of a small apartment and suited our needs perfectly. It was within easy walking distance of the Inner Harbor and city attractions. It was nice, clean, convenient, and hip. Couldn't have asked for anything better. The only downside was that the rooms are not well-insulated, and there was a group of girls next to us who were pretty loud. They didn't disturb us much, though.

We stayed in suite 303 (See attached photos), a very nice contemporary room taking advantage of the large timbers and thick floor of it's former life as a grain warehouse. The king bedroom is in the loft along with a good sized wide screen TV (Standard definition). The main level contains a bathroom (shower/tub), kitchen, and living room (with couch, hi-def widescreen, and a dining table) tastefully decorated with upscale furnishings and toiletries. Off of the living area is a set of french doors opening to a very small (1' x 5') balcony. A nice touch was that this door, and the bedroom window use two set of glass so road noise (we are downtown here) was greatly reduced in level. Also a nice surprise was that even being downtown, road noise seems to die down fairly early so we were able to leave the windows open and enjoy the breezes when we slept at night. Another nice touch: A free local paper at your door each morning.

Parking is in a nearby lot and is $9 per day.

You are in the heart of downtown with tons of shops, restaurants, and sights within easy walking distance.

The hotel staff provided us with two coupons to try a taster beer (4 oz glasses) at the on premises brew-pub. Upon hearing that we were beer drinkers, they thew in an extra couple of free beer coupons for us as well. Another plus, is the 15% discount we were able to take advantage of for food and beverages down in the pub. Food was good, but somewhat expensive.

We had really good local beer and the best hamburger at the pub that is part of the Bedford Rengency hotel at 1140 government street: Great food and reasonably priced. Bean around the town, just a block away, had killer coffee. For those interested in a bargain (like my wife) a large Value Village is just two blocks away.

We took a really beautiful walk all along the harbor going past the Empress, government buildings, out to the end of the sea wall (and back) and then winding our way back along the shoreline turning back into town at the park. It's perhaps a 7 mile walk, and there was so many things to see.

While the room was a little more expensive than I would have liked (about $150 a day including tax on one of the booking sites) it was much cheaper than someplace like the Empress. With only a few dozen rooms, you didn't just feel like a faceless guest, like you would have at another hotel.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a loft room (Not sure if all rooms have lofts)

All suite hotel in historic building with in house brew pub. We stayed with friends in a two bedroom suite which has living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen on lower level with bedrooms and bathroom on 2nd level. Live bands nightly in downstairs bar. Hotel is conveniently located next to Chinatown and you can walk to Provincial and Maritime Museums, the Empress and many great stores like Capitol Ironworks and fine restaurants. This is a university town so there are many pubs and lots of local beers to sample.

Room Tip: Best rate though on line booking not with hotel.
