My girlfriend and I were in Victoria for a business trip, but wanted to have one dinner that was fun and frivolous. She suggested the Canoe Brewpub. We walked down the hill to the entrance and were greeted outside by very friendly hostesses. They offered us inside or outside seating. As it was a gorgeous sunny evening, we chose outside, and had an umbrella shaded table adjacent to the water, with a great view.
The brewpub offers a variety of their own beers, we each had something different (one dark and one light), both were great. The menu offered a range of choices (without being one of those annoying menus with pages and pages of discordant foods), and the descriptions were all enticing.
We had the salmon and a pasta dish. The pasta was to be served with sausage, but the waitress was more than happy to substitute chicken for me instead. Both meals were perfect portion sizes, with a good helping of vegetables, very flavourful sauces and perfectly cooked.
We didn't stay for desert, but rather sat enjoying the late evening sun as it dropped slowly to the horizon.
The staff were friendly without being overly "in your face", the food was good, the prices were reasonable, the beer was great. I would certainly return again.
