“A park beside the ocean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2012

If you have a few days in Victoria you will likely get down to Dallas road and the ocean at the south end of the city. If so, take a stroll through one of the most interesting cemeteries in British Columbia and tour B.C.'s history headstone by headstone. A walk in Ross Bay Cemetery is worth it on its own merits, sea air, beautiful trees and perhaps the odd ghost . . .

“BC History all in one place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2012

Give yourself a lot of time to wander through this very interesting place, one of the oldest surviving Victorian cemeteries in Canada. Here you will find BC's first Governor (Douglas) and pretty well all the people after whom Vancouver's streets are named. It is a gracious walk through time and truly is a history lesson easily absorbed and appreciated. This should be top on everyone's list who visits Victoria. I believe that there are also walking tours available, but if you can get your hands on the layout booklet of the place, you can guide yourself.

“Fascinating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2012

If you like looking at old cemetaries and have some knowledge of British Colunbia history, this is a fascinating place to spend an afternoon. You'll find yourself poking around all the nooks and crannies of this early cemetary trying to spot names you recognize.

“A lot of BC history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2012

Ross Bay Cemetery has over 27,000 interments, and is fascinating to stroll through. There are former premiers, pioneers, artists, and family groups. As well, there are hundreds of wonderful trees and plants, making for beautiful walks at all times of the year. Tours are available but it's also nice to just wander and find quiet spots to stop.

“not as pretty as some, but very interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2011

Not many large headstones, but lots of unusual ones, including an interesting tribute to those lost at sea. If you are interested in cemetaries, particularly those with ties to the local history, this one is worth a visit.
