When i was younger and living in Vancouver, it was always a delight to go to this as a child and see all the miniatures, especially the sawmill. When we had a chance to return to Victoria this year, i wanted to go, mostly for nostalgia if nothing else.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was still a nice attraction, however the one sad thing is that the sawmill is no longer operating, and only on display, with a video showing how it is working.

Whatever you think of this extraordinary attraction it most certainly inspired me. Build only a few dozen years ago I suspect, yet so indicative of the strength of Canada this small enterprise deserves support in an increasingly commercial world. Models build with effort by individuals from the same mould as those that truly built this country not the ones that raped it.

The strength is in the exhibits themselves, the people who made them not the scenes they depict. The ultimate being the extraordinary working saw mill which is not longer allowed to run because some bureaucrat somewhere decide it was a fire hazard. Life is a hazard; I kinda like it that way.

The folk who run the show could probably make more money if they sold built condos on the site but then that wouldn't be right now would it? No it'd be Vancouver :-)

Did the 'be a tourist in your own town' a few years back - it was fun. This place has lots ot look at - definitly more entertaining for the kids than for a couple young adults.

After visiting Bekonscot Model Village in Britain, I decided to take my daughter and parent to see Minature World. It is a completely different experience.

Minature World is a kids paradise hidden in the basement of the Empress Hotel suitable for visiting all year in all weather. It is actually a collection of diaoramas and dollhouses grouped around different themes: Space, history, fairy tales, circuses etc. All with fine details for everyone to explore.

What made this fun for my daughter was that some of the displays had veiwing platforms for her stand on. Lots of buttons to press and plenty of room to run around without being in danger. There is limited appeal for adults as some of the display are starting to look old and are a bit static.

If you want something to keep young children happy. This is a good option. My daughter had so much fun that she can't wait to go back soon.

In my many years of living in the area I had not visited Miniature World because frankly I thought it would be a Tourist Trap.
Finally last year we went and were fascinated by it. The detail is amazing and there are History lessons to be learned.
Lots of displays to keep the little ones happy too.
