This was only a 1 night stay but it was most enjoyable.
Abigail's is a delightful, old-style, family-run hotel with cleram very comfortable rooms and amenities included. It is just a few minutes from the harbour behind the Empress - a perfect position, McClure St is now a cul-de-sac, so no through traffic, but has pedestrian access direct onto Quadra St.
Our 2nd floor Amethyst rooms are the Standards but they still have that country house feel with Tester-style beds - the mattress so soft you sink in it. The shower/toilet area is perhaps a little small as it fits into the rear of the angular end gable but it is still manageable.
A delicious breakfast is included - it is called 3-course - with a menu - but offers on-the-spot served food (not buffet) from a visible kitchen and chef.
The personal, very friendly and helpful service is a pleasure and is excellent.
Note It is only 3 floors above ground but no lift (elevator) could be a difficulty. I noted the sound attenuation between rooms was not good. I could hear a guest in the next room snoring and at 7:15am, his wife's telephone call ! Clearly enough to tell where she was from.
It was not an issue but it could have been embarrassing. Nevertheless, it didn't spoil our brief stay - I wouldn't suggest not staying at Abigail's because of it.
We would happily recommend Abigail's to anyone and would certainly enjoy staying here again, if coming to Victoria. My family from Gtr Vancouver who were with us loved it and would recommend it to their friends.
Thank you very much to the staff.
