“The only place to stay in Victoria!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2013

Perfect location, short walk to the ferries, downtown attractions, main bus line (75 express) to buchart gardens is only 2 blocks away. Short walk to Fishermans wharf. Highly recommend getting the Victoria Suite if traveling with children, we were traveling with our 3 kids. We enjoyed the privacy of having our own bedroom. Very friendly staff, kids enjoyed the goody bags. Your kids can even do "meet the ducks" at 9 am in the lobby. The pool is the best in town, according to all the canadians we met in the pool. Large beautiful indoor pool, nice toddler pool, steam room, hot tub and sauna, plus apples as you leave the health club. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Victoria Suite when traveling with children.

This hotel was located perfectly on the harbour of Victoria next to the Parliment Building and right downtown near restaurants and the BC Museum. We had a spacious suite on the 8th floor with a view of the Harbour and the Fairmount Empress Hotel from our balcony. Very clean, and very good staff service. The hotel Concierge, Stephan was very helpful and his suggestions for things to do and places to eat were perfect for our needs. Very walkable to all the downtown restaurants, The Bard and Banker was a fantastic Scottish Pub, Il Terrazzo was a fabulous Italian Restaurant with delicious food. The Craigdarroch Castle was a must to see with aninteresting insight to Vicotria's history. High Tea at the Empress made us feel like royalty!

Room Tip: We were able get a senior rate suite with a harbour view.

The location couldn't be better for a Clipper traveler looking to spend time in Victoria's Inner Harbor.

We were pleasantly greeted at the front desk with little gift bags for our two kiddos. The lobby is pleasant and light-filled. The gift shop is tiny and poorly stocked.

Our rooms were water facing and a nice surprise since the desk clerk was able to give us the upgrade for only $20 a night. Room was quite small but adequate. It's beds were a little soft and old feeling (squeaky!) but, ultimately fairly comfortable. Everything seemed to clean, though overall the room could use some refreshing – re-grouting in the tub where there was mold, some peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, crumpled old-looking bedskirts, etc. just needs to be renovated a bit. When we arrived the bathroom had not been completely stocked – no bathmat and no bath soap. But the amenities are delightful – Gilchrist & Soames...mmmm yes!

Would recommend this hotel for families or business travelers. But there are no good restaurants immediately nearby and breakfast food from the café was mediocre at best. So be prepared for a pleasant but several blocks long walk to get to restaurants or other services.

In summary, I would say this currently is a solid three-star hotel but needs to step up its game to reclaim four-star status.

The gym was great
Buffet breakfast was really good and the staff on duty the first morning were great.
The suite was nice and roomy but so were the rooms
The cleaning lady was charming and did a great job

Room Tip: We had a nice suite on the front overlooking harbor but I would ask for a room overlooking parliamen...

My husband and I stayed here for a glorious night. We were in the west wing (room 1036). Fantastic views of the BC legislature building and harbour. Don't forget to look off to the right for a beautiful view of the Coastal Mountains on mainland BC. Check-in was friendly and efficient.

Service: What impressed us most was how genuinely happy the staff seem. To us, that's the sign of a good hotel. Not only do they seem happy doing their jobs, they're happy interacting with both hotel guests and each other. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome. One of the bellman gave us an excellent recommendation for a quick bite at the Bard and Banker (see review) and we enjoyed a fantastic meal at The Pacific (see review). The bell captain and bellman even took the time to answer our questions about some of their sculptures - it was fun!

Value: Definitely good value for the quality of the stay. Everything is top notch.

Sleep Quality: Wow! Comfy king size bed! Lovely linens. Couldn't have been happier.

Cleanliness: Their cleaning staff make sure everything is sparkling.

Location: Perfect! Easy walk to cool restaurants and shops (make sure you try Rogers Chocolates - especially the ginger; heck try them all - they're great!). Extremely close to the legislature; if you haven't been through it, take the time as it's a lovely building. A very close walk to the Undersea Gardens.

Rooms: Wow! Great balcony. Fabulous amenities - look in the cabinet to find not only a coffee make but also a kettle for making tea and wine glasses for those of us that love the vino! Ladies, best bathrooms ever! As well as a sink in the spa-like bathroom, there's a sink outside the room as well; perfect for when you're traveling with a friend or your hubby. Deep soaker tub - luxurious. Beautiful décor and furnishings. One of the nicer rooms we've ever stayed in.

Spa: Although we didn't use the spa, Doug took advantage of the pool and fitness facility. Both are excellent and the staff super friendly.

We're fortunate that we get to stay at this grand lady of a hotel again at the tail end of our trip. We can't wait!

We recently spent 4 days at this hotel while attending a conference. The facilities were excellent, the location very convenient and the staff superb. I highly recommend the Hotel Grand Pacific as a base when one visits Victoria.
