“film”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

There was a 45 minutes film that was offered with tea and cookies. What a delightful surprise to learn about 3 female artists. If you want to watch the film, give an extra 45 minutes, otherwise it does not take that long to view the house.

“Emily Carr House - Step into the Past!”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

My husband and I had a wonderful afternoon at the Emily Carr House - it was a true step into the past and also a great learning experience. My grandmother was friends with her younger sister and had met Emily on many occasions. It felt like I was connecting somewhat with my Grandmother :) Fun day!

“Average to boring”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

It just wasn't worth the effort of finding a parking space to visit this museum. The exterior is in the process of being refinished and should look lovely when done but because of the renos, the garden was fenced off to visitors. There are 5 rooms for visitors to view but the second floor is out of bounds because the caretaker lives upstairs. One would think that the caretaker could find other accommodation and the bedrooms set up as a gallery of Emily's works and perhaps allow visitors to peak out of the windows at the view. Signage downstairs says that the furnishings are not the Carr family's but put together from other collections. The shells on the bookshelf can be purchased at dollar stores which really does take away from any period authenticity. There is a motley collection of 'artifacts' in a room called the People's (?) Gallery all stuffed together and unlabelled. There are very few Carr family photos on the walls or anywhere else, although there are a lot in existence Lovely to preserve the home of Emily Carr but disappointing and quite an amateur display from a ticket holder's perspective..

“The CARR House”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

This was a wonderful way to see how the artist lived. So close to the Harbour, within walking distance. There are quotes from her books throughout the house and garden. Some of her work is on the walls and pictures of her family also. The gift shop had copies of her books and prints and cards etc. You were also invited to have tea and cookies on the back glassed in porch. The garden had many unique flowers , a great place to take pictures.
