Owner description: Canada's oldest Chinatown is characterized by narrow, winding streets and lots of little shops and restaurants.

When I first saw this "Chinatown" I thought it was a joke. The shops are all filled with same tacky "Chinese" rubbish and the restaurants in this area are all very poor. Very disappointing

This is the real thing! Chinese grocery stores selling a variety of strange and wonderful comestibles. Barbecued pork and duck hanging in windows. Doors (always closed) leading who knows where. Becoming a bit commercialized now but still fascinating.

Beautiful lanterns hanging lit at night, great bubble tea shops, Fan Tan alley's a must, check out Ocean Garden, old restaurant but a landmark. All stores have little etries and then when you walk in there's 5000+ feet of retail space with millions of nick nacks.

Went into Chinatown to find my ingredients for my husbands Thai dishes. Also had to buy a bamboo steamer. Love the feel and smells of Chinatown. Shop here a lot when we are in Victoria.

I found myself back in Victoria for another bit of work and just discovered Fan Tan Alley
This small alley links two blocks between Chinatown and is quite magical.
A few shops were closed because of renovations but the other shops were really full of character.

I absolutely recommend talking the short stroll down and definitely bring a camera
