Owner description: Kayaking is the best way to see Victoria. We specialize in safe, fun and educational kayak tours of Victoria's Harbour and waterfront. Our floating location at Fisherman's Wharf is a 10 minute walk from the cruise ship terminal and 20 minutes from downtown on the scenic boardwalk. We are the closest kayak shop to the Juan de Fuca straight, so when conditions allow, we will paddle along the coast to the kelp forests and an island the harbour seals frequent. Along the way we may see different shore birds like eagles, osprey, oystercatchers, cormorants, and the great blue heron. Starfish, jelly fish and kelp crabs are usually hiding just below the surface. Kayaking is easy and we make it easier by offering paddling jackets, gloves and a bottle of water. Plus on our kayak launch you won't even get your feet wet!

This is is a small outfit, in the inner harbour. This was also out first trip out in a kayak. We took a 2hr trip around a small island, and checked out the seals and birds. We had two kids in out group and the guide was excellent with everyone. There was one boat that was having trouble, and he took the time to get them sorted. Everyone had fun and know one felt left behind. Kids had smiles on their faces. Thanks Spencer for your time. Keep up the grand grand job.

Thank you! It sounds like Spencer has made a big impression on your family. You may have been first time kayakers but thanks to him it won't be your last time kayaking.

We had a great morning kayak with Brad and Katharine. We Got to see and learn a lot about the marine, Victoria and sea creatures. They were great teachers on teaching us how to kayak properly and helped a lot. I would defentantly recommend you go for a nice kayak ride to see a different point of view of Victoria. Thanks again guys!

I had a great experience with Kelp Reef Adventures. Both Katharine and Spencer were enthusiastic and helpful, the kayaks were sturdy and comfortable, and the wildlife was amazing! Definitely recommended.

Thanks Katie for your recommendation. The morning tour is my favourite because the wind is typically the lightest and we have to best chance to paddle outside the harbour to the seal rookeries. During the summer it's cooler to kayak in the morning and it's a great way to start the day. We are on the water shortly after 9am and with luck get to see two different harbour seal rookeries. With a view of the Olympic mountains we anchor our kayaks in a kelp bed and enjoy a picnic while watching sleeping seals. Please book in advance so we can bring enough food for the picnic.

It was with fear and trepidation that I climbed into the gear (with lots of help from my adult son, get into the first seat in a two person kayak, and set out to sea! I never imagined that at 60++ I would be doing such a thing. Thanks to Lucas, our guide, (and my son and wife who talked me into it) it turned into a fantastic adventure where we had the opportunity to observe harbor seals and their new pups lounging on the rocks and swimming all around us. We could almost reach out and touch them. We also observed other wildlife up close and personal ... something you just can't do from any other vessel or vantage point.

Lucas was helpful and knowledgeable ... and need I say patient. Couldn't have had a better experience!

There's no reason why you can't try kayaking for the first in your sixties! Thank you for sharing your story... It's a wonderful memory of your time in Victoria with your family. We have a Jet Dock launching system that holds the kayak stable allowing guests access to their boat without risk of capsize. Plus you don't even get your feet wet! This also means that Kelp Reef's kayak tours are accessible for people with many types of disabilities.

Our 7PM Kelp Reef kayak tour was fun! We had Lucas as our guide and he was informative and passionate about his job! My family of 3 adults and one teen were easily guided into our kayaks. We saw herons, seals with their pups, and learned about the harbor history. Kelp Reef provided everything including water bottles. We generally stayed ry except for our arms as the water got pretty rough coming back into the harbor and there was a heater for us to warm our hands when we returned at 9:15P. The staff was very courteous, organized, and kept everyone safe! I would definitely recommend Kelp Adventures.

Thank you for your review and description of Lucas' excellent job. Where we go on our kayak tours depends on the wind and we will often have a plan b if the weather changes. It sounds like you had the chance to kayak to our seal rookeries along a more exposed shoreline. Often the wind can pick up in the evenings and we head downtown to see the Inner harbour. I'm glad with the jackets, spray skirts and gloves that we provide you were comfortable for your adventure with us!
