Me, I love to go whale watching and have tried on many occasions to get out and spy one or two, so this time I was torn between checking out Victoria or possibly seeing an Orca; well, the latter won the day and OMG! how glad I was to have been there on this day. It was very cold and a bit miserable but hot drinks, for a nominal fee, were available; I sat on deck under a cover with my friend and hope was diminishing after an hour but I was feeling philosophical, cos hey, nature is nature but then suddenly (and I can tell you my heart nearly stopped with excitement) a large male local Orca was spied and then another....yes it was momentary but still, the thrill !!! the crew then received information from others out on the ocean that transitory Orcas were about and we started towards a siting....Oh My Days! it was the most amazing sight....a young male Orca stalking seals on an island - now I love animals and I did not want to see one of the little furry blighters go under but again, it is the wild and this is what happens ! however, those seals were not silly and the alarm went up and the dorsal fin went down. To our surprise, we then saw two others surface and they stayed in the same spot for ages, with the staff informing us that maybe the young ones were being taught how to catch and eat - My day was exceeding expectations. Movement was too quick to capture a photo on my phone, so in the end I gave up and just enjoyed seeing these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat - it was awesome and the crew were as excited as we were - honestly fancy having this as your office everyday - sublime. Eventually, we had to move on, although the captain stayed as long as he could. I was euphoric but that was not the end...oh no, we then saw a hump back and the shot everyone waits for, the tail out of the water as he did a deep dive - truly magnificent and if that was not enough, two Minke whales appeared - I seriously nearly expired with the joy of it all - so was this a good day - You betcha - and the staff were excellent on board and off. Highly recommend this tour.
