What a trip down memory lane! Friendly family run, great burgers and shakes with large portions. If there are two of you only one should order fries and then share them (unless you are training for an eating contest!).

Step into this retro 50's diner and be prepared to be wowed by the decor and the quality of their beef, turkey, salmon and veggie burgers. Taylor your burger to meet your preferred taste profile. There are many add-ons like mushrooms, cheddar cheese, bacon and the like. Be prepared to build a "fries-raft" if you order the mushrooms as an add-on; it is all part of the experience.

The restaurant fresh and clean, the staff is attentive and the price is right.

This is a neighbourhood favourite and a real find for guests.

These guys specialize in your base burgers and fries. Shakes also. That said, you would be hard pressed to find a better burger in town. If you can finish a plate of their fries you deserve a medal of to visit an eating disorder clinic. Huge portion!

Some find the ownership stand offish, they are nice just quirky at times.

Closes early (7:45PM) and will not stay open for anyone.

We happened upon Moderne Burger by accident, and were so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere. All of the booths were full when we arrived, so we sat at the bar. The 'old fashioned 'burger joint' decor reminded me of simpler times - clean and open. Sitting at the bar allowed us to have a look around and we were served by the owner - a very friendly and affable man who made some suggestions from the menu. The menu - also very simple. Good old-fashioned, hand made hamburgers (they do also offer a salmon burger). My husband and I decided to order a burger each (with the fixin's) and share a plate of fries. The burger was plump, juicy and full of flavor, the lettuce and tomatos were fresh, the cheese melted just right - and the stack of fries, OMG hot and heavenly. It was a very satisfying meal. Turns out the restaurant's been there for 10 years. The owner mentioned a lot of his business is regulars - he greeted many people by name. For us the place was new - and we'll definitely be back.

A friend had been raving to us about Moderne Burger for months,so we finally drove into Vancouver with him to give it a try. It was like stepping into a time warp and coming out in the 1950's. Great diner decor, with a lot of stainless steel, with old toy and car memorabilia throughout. We felt the booth width could of been a bit wider for four adults to sit comfortably, but the burgers made up for the lack of elbow room.
The menu is minimalistic, with the burger toppings costing $1.50 each (bacon, mushrooms cheeses etc) bringing the cost of a burger and fries to about $20.00 per person if you want a loaded burger. They offer turkey, salmon and veggie burgers as well, but if I'm blowing my daily caloric intake on one meal - show me the beef!
They do fresh, made to order burgers and fries, that's it. They don't add salt or spices to the burger meat which I personally think is a mistake, cause face it, salt is a necessary flavor enhancer. The burgers are extremely juicy, so be forewarned, if you don't want the juice dripping over your fries making them all soggy, ask for a side plate. Some people have stated the burgers were too greasy, but there is a difference between juicy and greasy. They are juicy.
The fries are the best part of the meal as far as I'm concerned. The kind my Mom used make in a big old aluminum pot on top of the stove, fresh cut and fried to crispy potato heaven! (Thank God they are salted)
Oh, then there's the shakes. We passed on them opting instead for a diet coke, but Tom ordered his and it was the real deal, served with the aluminum shake cup so you could refill your glass when ready. (They also make floats and have a wide assortment of sodas.)
All in all it was a good burger experience, the owner even came over to say hi to Tom and us after we ate.
We do plan to go back again, maybe even have a shake this time......
