“Like fishy smelling leather with cheese whiz...”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Negative: This place was once an event, a dining experience, fun and fabulous... Not Anymore! It is awful... The Agedashi Tofu was deep fried like fish & chips, the Oysters Motoyaki were like fishy smelling leather with cheese whiz on them, the sushi rolls were tiny and had almost nothing inside them (and what was inside wasn't good), and the Seafood Fried Rice was like the scrapings off the grill at the end of the night. It smelled so bad we had to put it at the other end of the table. I used to work in restaurants and from the taste of the food I can tell you the kitchen here is very dirty and they don't clean the fry area.
Also, they call it "All you can eat", but really it is, "Order once and then we ignore you for 30 minutes before we ask you if you want anything else... " Perhaps that is a positive, because that was 30 minutes we weren't at risk of getting food poisoning...
Positive: The sashimi, sunumono and miso were fine, but that didn't make up for the horror of the other items and the obvious avoiding to give us service.
We went to Tanpopo to celebrate a special occasion and left feeling nauseas and a ripped off. DO NOT GO TO TANPOPO.
I can't believe anyone on here gave this place more than 1 star... Obviously fake reviews.

“By far the best all you can eat sushi lunch - you won't be disappointed!!”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

The all you can eat lunch menu here is amazing! Sushi is good, sashimi is unreal and the appies are all top notch. The value is really good - I can't remember for sure but it's around $12/person.

The biggest risk here is eating too much and not being able to walk afterwards....

One thing that sets this place apart is the speed of their service. I'm always amazed how fast they bring dishes out. This makes it a lot easier to not over order at the start, just order a few things and keep ordering as you go. If you do this at other places, you'll be there for hours but these guys work fast!

I've had a lot of Vancouver friend's take me to "their favourite place" closer to downtown but none have compared. Take the 5 minute cab ride out to Tanpopo - it will be worth it!

“The "BEST" A.Y.C.E in Vancouver and Lower mainland!!”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

The sushi and tempura we have had at FISH ON RICE in Burnaby, on Kingsway near were we live has been of such horrid quality the last two visits in March that we need an alternative for our AYCE cravings.,The venture that led us to to English bay was rewarding.! Thank you Tanpopo!! The salmon on our sushi is Sockeye..and fresh,The Tuna was fresh also..Our waiter .."Jason" was very polite, and I should mention the last 3 times we have been here the service from the female staff was also stellar.I love the welcome all receive from the chefs as patrons arrive at the top of the stairs.I had been here about 8 years ago, dined on the patio..thought at the time the food and service were average but not memorable..that was then. What a welcome surprise..all the dishes we tried last 3 visits were very good..and I'm picky..can't find any fault with Tanpopo. We look forward to going here now..It's $10 more for gas consumption with the car..But well worth it. Thank you Tanpopo!! Johnathan Z

“Service is better than the food.”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

Service was ridiculously fast, attentive and friendly, the second a plate was empty it was cleared, beer was poured for us, water offered, we were asked if we had any questions with the menu (sure enough we did) and food came out rather fast.

The maki rolls had a poor fish to rice ratio - there was too much rice, making you fuller faster. Portions were very small, but I can rationalise that it's in case you don't like it - you don't waste too much and if you do like it, you can order more. Sashimi was excellent, nicely sliced and at perfect temperature, word of warning though - there is a limit of 10 sashimi slices per person for all you can eat, which is rather disappointing. Dishes overall came out fresh and in good time.

All you can eat during lunch hour and late night is around $12 per per person for non-sashimi menu and $14 for sashimi. At the time of this writing Sapporo beer was $3.50 a bottle.

Overall, excellent service, decent food, casual sit down atmosphere, great for lunch.

“Good Dining Experience”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Came to Tanpopo during long weekend for dinner with friends and family. We found all the staffs are very friendly and pleasant. They have ayce dinner menu available for 20.95 & 24.95 with huge selections. At the end we also order both the banana fry and mango pudding for desserts, NICE. Definitely will come back.
