Guu on Thurlow Street, next to Vancouver's trendy Robson Street shopping district, has become a regular favourite of ours. It's an inexpensive, fun, noisy, yet delicious pub-style Japanese restaurant, popular with Japanese students and ex-pats. Guu is authentic Japanese; the staff are all Japanese, in contrast with many of the sushi joints in the city. They greet you with a loud welcome in Japanese, and a loud "thank you" when you leave. The food is mostly grilled, fried or raw. No rolls here. My particular favourite is the Yaki Udon noodles, as well as the Japanese style calimari. Service is fast and always cheerful.
We've recommended Guu to many visitors, and they haven't been disappointed.
