Description: A Vancouver favorite for years, La Buca provides a consistently satisfying dining experience for locals and visitors alike. As a neighborhood restaurant, La Buca welcomes walk in diners, however as "the neighborhood restaurant that everyone wishes was in their neighborhood", it can fill up quickly, and reservations are recommended and appreciated.

“Best Italian food hidden away in Vancouver neighborhood.”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for years ever since a foodie friend recommended it. It's a tiny place hidden among a bunch of neighbourhood shops so there's
no way we would have just gone there if we didn't know about it.

Not a lot of tables so make a reservation. The food is excellent and I always recommend you try a couple dishes of pasta (they'll make any pastas as appetizers too). Service is always friendly and prompt.

When I want a guaranteed great meal or want to take friends out, La Bucca is the go-to place every time.

“Not cheap, but my goodness!”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

We've been gong to this little gem for the past 4 or 5 years for my birthday. It's a tiny, tiny spot (maybe 7 or 8 tables?) and chilly if you're sitting by the door, but it's a cozy, wonderful spot. Every time we've been there, the service has been great, and the food is amazing. It's an Italian spot, but has a lot of novel flavours and presentations styles.

I highly recommend it for special occasions. I'd recommend it for less special ones as well, but I'm not made of money.

“Great once again”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

Went to La Buca (unfortunately misspelled in the TripAdvisor listing) on Macdonald last night and had another fantastic meal. This is about our 5th time there and it never disappoints. We had the chef's selection menu last night (where the Chef selects the five courses you will eat) and they nailed it. Opening with perfect rapini with an anchovy dressing and tempura anchovy (way better than it sounds on paper - it was dreamy), then a lovely rigatoni in pepper sauce, perfectly executed Ahi tuna over house-made caponata, lovely bisteca Roma, and topped off by a great dessert. Add in a very reasonably priced, and very tasty, bottle of wine and it all came together very nicely.

An important aspect to La Buca is the service. Always very friendly without being overly familiar or grating. Nice balance and very knowledgeable. You won't get many meals like this - even in food-happy Vancouver. The room is a bit noisy (if you're sensitive to that) but it's good noisy - it adds to the Italian energy...

It's a bit out of the way but more than worth the cab ride (always call first).

Very very good food . Service is great . Don't sit at the back as the heating/ a.c. System blows right down on you and make things very uncomfortable . Very noisy .

“Great addition to Vancouver's dining scene”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

We were lucky to have dinner during La Buca's Seventh Annual Game & Mushroom Festival. This was a special treat with an entire menu featuring dishes you would seldom see anywhere else. We were a group of four, so were able to sample several dishes. My starter, warm mushroom salad with crostini and shaved Piave cheese was generous and very tasty. Others had the fabulous roast pancetta wrapped quail as well as scallop carpaccio with duck prosciutto and truffle vinaigrette You can tell they use high quality oils and other ingredients. All excellent. There were four choices of pasta, the second course, and four mains. We each ordered a different dish, so pretty well tasted our way through the entire menu. Grilled bison steak, veal scallopini and rabbit, all delicious, each with different and interesting sides. Generous portions at a reasonable price tag: 3 courses for $48. A thoughtful wine list and good service rounds out a very pleasant dining experience. It's a small place on a side street, which helps keeping the prices down.
