“Back again; for dinner this time!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

I've had lunch here a few times and it's always been very good. I went back for dinner this week before going to see the Olympic cauldron being lit for a Canadian gold medal win!! We didn't have reservations so were seated in the lounge. The hostess does a shout-out when they seat you and the other staff then all shout back. I didn't understand what that was all about. It was happy hour and there is a limited menu of half price appies. We had edemame, spicy tuna roll, mayo ebi and calamari. All were very tasty and good sized portions! The ebi (prawns) were large and delicious. We each had a cocktail and then shared a curry beef rice bowl from the regular menu. It is my favorite!! The entire meal was $40. Lively atmosphere, upbeat music and a good crowd. Would recommend happy hour (until 5:30) for a good meal at a really good price!

“Hapa hour is worth it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014 via mobile

First time dining and will be back! We went at 530 last Sunday. Hapa hour is a great deal. We had tea, oysters, beef tetaki, spinach gomae, tempura prawns, a pork rice and egg bowl and a Italian fusion (torcino?) roll off the regular menu. Everything was fantastic. The service was upbeat and promt even though the gentleman was very busy. In the end our bill was only 35$! Looking forward to our next visit

“Great "Hapa Hour"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2013

Our group of 6 arrived at opening (5:30) on a Thursday and benefitted from that early arrival to indulge in "hapa hour" - we had awesome fresh oysters, tempura prawns, beef, california roll, agedashi tofu, etc. The pear martini was fantastic. Excellent value and delish. Saw some other negative reviews - not sure where those people ate...we are all seasoned travellers and found everything fantastic.

“worth a try”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2013

There are so many japanese restaurants in Vancouver but this one is worth a try. This place is usually busy and reservations are a good idea, even at lunch. I work close by and a friend introduced me to this restaurant last year. I had walked by it 1000 times without knowing, it's sort of upstairs at Waterfront Centre at the foot of Burrard St. I like the hot stone rice bowls, either the beef curry or the mushroom one. The server brings the hot bowl and mixes it up at your table. I find if we go as a group and order share plates we seem to order a lot of plates but are not exactly full after our meal and it's quite an expensive endeavor. So I do recommend the Hapa Izakaya but I suggest you just order for yourself what you would like to eat. You can eat inside or outside. The tables are quite small so it's 'cozy' for sure - especially when seated with colleagues, but the food is good and worth a try.
