While walking through historic Gastown, the early core of downtown Vancouver, and after looking at a number of restaurants, my wife and I decided to have lunch at The Water Street Cafe, located on the corner of Water and Cambie Streets and across the street from the famous Gastown steam clock. We elected to eat outside so that we could watch people. We have an extremely helpful and attentive server who made adjustments to menu items to accommodate certain dietary requirements. The veal scaloppini was unbelievably good and my wife's Caprese salad and spinach and ricotta ravioli were wonderful. This restaurant has a nice beer and wine selection. We were extremely please with the service and the quality of our food. We would certainly return to The Water Street Cafe.

While walking in this charming gaslight neighborhood we stopped for a glass of wine and an appetizer. We were seated outside and brought drinks and a basket of warm bread and butter before our tuna arrived. All was wonderful and a perfect people watching area across from the steam clock. We finished our day the next day in the same area and wandered looking for a place to eat a very late lunch. We had such a good experience we decided to return for a meal. The servers were friendly and fast. We ordered the seafood pasta special and the fish and roasted vegetables special. Both were wonderful as was the rosemary bread. Good food with a scenic view.

Eating at 7:30 on a Saturday evening was an incredible experience. All the tables were taken with a queue at the door. Despite the apparent chaos the waiting and kitchen staff performed like a well oiled machine running in overdrive. The service was brilliant, the food was as to be expected of a good Italian restaurant and the staff remained friendly and cheerful throughout. It was so good we are going back again tonight.

We love this place. Came here also on our last visit to Vancouver ten years ago. It was just as nice to eat here after our lovely bicycle tour of Vancouver with CycleCity Tours on Saturday Sept 7th as we remembered from last time.
We sat outside to enjoy the people watching in Gastown and the steam clock.
I had the BC salmon penne - very nice. My husband had the steak with peppercorn sauce and fries. He said the steak was very tender and tasty and cooked exactly to order. Delicious sorbet for desert.
We had excellent service : knowledgeable, attentive and friendly.
We will definitively return next time we are in Vancouver.

We chose to sit outside which proved a plus. The passing parade of folk and the quarter hourly operation of the steam clock on the adjacent corner were both good.

As the natural light faded and street lighting took over the changing atmosphere was great.

Service was attentive, friendly and informative. We restricted ourselves to a single course, both fish and both excellent. Fresh, good quality ingredients well prepared. The wine list seemed good though we decided to restrict ourselves to a rose that was a bit sweet for us.

Well worth the price and time.
