We ate at Joe Fortes one night during our honeymoon and were certainly not disappointed - in fact we went back for lunch on our final day!
The restaurant itself is very attractive and welcoming - it almost has an old fashioned American "Cheers" style to it, with a great central bar, sweeping staircase and a great patio upstairs.
Our waiter was impeccable, friendly and knew both the food and drinks menus inside out. He made several recommendations based on our likes and dislikes.
The food was delicious, very well prepared and presented. I highly recommend their lobster oil, had we not been restricted by flight baggage allowances then we would have purchased a bottle or two!
If you like seafood then this is an absolute must if you find yourself in downtown Vancouver.
Other reviewers have mentioned that the restaurant experience is a little rushed but we felt the exact opposite of this - the restaurant was busy and we were lucky to get a table without pre-booking, but at no point did we feel rushed through our meal. Gaps left in between courses were just long enough to allow your food to digest and service in between to top up drinks and bread was faultless.
If you're looking for a lighter bite, Joe Fortes also serves drinks and appies (appetisers) on their patio over brunch/lunch. The daytime was bustling with business meetings, friend and family get togethers and was a good mix of full lunches and light bites.
