Went in for dinner. Sushi and tua salad were very good. Isabelle's service was superior. Excellent recommendations and fantastic service with a smile. Trying to steal her to work for my company! Restaurant is much bigger on the inside than it looks from the street. Downside?? Out of draft beer.

We were recommended this restaurant by the concierge at the Fairmont Vancouver hotel, located a short stroll away. We found the staff to be excellent, service was attentive and prompt while the ambience was great. Due to the heat wave I was in loafers and shorts but was made to feel welcomed (in spite of other guests being significantly better dressed).

We had the sushi platter for two and shared the Ling Cod for our main as we were not that hungry. While fresh, we found the food to be just ok. Prices were a bit on the high side but we didn't mind and left a generous tip which we felt was justified for the service provided.

We were outside on the lovely patio and ordered drinks to start--my friend had a nice glass of red and I tried the Vancouverite... very special. Our meal began with the crab cake, then we created our own platter. Salmon + brussels sprouts + lobster. It was awesome. We're always thrilled with the stellar service and food at Coast... but the main event this visit was actually the crazy-amazing dessert! We splurged on the Chef's Selection and (though we couldn't finish it), we almost died (of happiness) trying.

My husband and I went to Coast on our first trip to Vancouver and were surprised and delighted by the service and attention to detail that was reflected throughout our experience. Our server was witty, personable and attentive. He was extremely knowledgeable about the food and beer as well as at reading body language and being attentive to items we needed - everything appeared before we asked for it! We ordered the Southwest Mussels - an interesting blend of tequila, citrus, white wine and butter - which were a little alcohol heavy as if the tequila was poured on as an afterthought. We both ordered the Blackened Snapper - which in hindsight was a mistake. I like to order local when possible, but was drawn in by the blackened preparation with a mango salsa and coconut rice. The dish itself was a poor representation of the fish as it was not blackened as much as marinaded and with little to no flavor or spice. Another issue was the fish skin, which was soggy not crisp. Lastly, the dish was very sweet as if a coconut sugar syrup had been used in the salsa and once that was on the fish it ruined the taste as there was no acid to compliment.

All of that being said, our very attentive server came over to comment that the dish looks different than usual, before we even tried the dish. So I am guessing that there might have been new kitchen staff? Regardless. after we finished our meal, Mandie, the General Manager came over to ask about our meal. We didn't complain and would have been happy to pay for the meal, but Mandie wanted us to leave with a good impression and took our meals off of the bill. I have to say I was floored at the level of customer care the staff at Coast provided and would both recommend Coast as well as give it a second try.

Come for the happy hour when the oysters are cheap! Friday lunch fish and chips are also a must.
Frisay and Saturday nights - Alberni St is always bumping so if you don't like crowds I'd avoid those days!

Seems like a lot of hotel staff recommend both this place and Joe Fortes for seafood in downtown, so expect quite a few tourists in either spot.
