“Fantastic modern time.”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

If you are looking for classical romantic evening, Coast Restaurant is not for you. Although my husband and I after 7 years of "honeymooning" definitely will call it romantic dinner for us, as we like vibrant, crazy, original, but always to our quality expectations food places. It is hard to be perfect all the time and those rare negative reviews I have seen here sound strange to me. If you give atmosphere in this place around 3 stars, it simply means this is not your place! And it cannot be everything! I like the fact that Coast concentrates on its uniqueness rather then trying to be perfect for everyone. It is PERFECT as COAST RESTAURANT where private preserved in loud social. The food many times experimental but successful: Asian/European/uniquely East Coast taste :) If you feel better with matching memory expectations, go to Italian or French... Even when they experiment they still in their boarders of tradition.

“Good food, buzzing but loud!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We visited the restaurant on a Friday evening, it was busy, buzzing, but too noisy for a romantic meal. The food is very good, we had New England chowder and Dungeness crab cakes followed by Seafood Tagliatelle and pan seared Scallops - everything was cooked perfectly. The downside was we felt the starter arrived very quickly and we were in and out so quickly it was a bit like being on a conveyor belt, good food but not a relaxing meal.

Admittedly, as the energy picks up on a Friday evening so do the noise levels of the room. I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your meal at COAST and we look forward to welcoming you back in again soon.

“busy and only slightly above average”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

This is a busy spot, so if you're looking for a scene, it's a good choice. For a business or romantic dinner, not so much. The dishes are generally good, but not great. And there's MUCH better sushi in town. Definitely try the fried brussels sprouts, though...they're amazing.

“Terribly disappointed”
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

We were seated 15 mins later than our Open Table reservation, then dropped off at a lone table in a back room and promptly forgotten. Another 15 mins passed & another larger group (we were 2) was seated. After another 15 mins, the maitre d' came by & asked how we were faring. After he'd heard that we'd seen no one since he'd dropped us off, he must have sent someone over, & she gave us menus & took our drink orders. My husband's warm martini came in a glass less than half full. It tasted mored of lemon peel than Bombay Blue Sapphire. We commented on the puny portion, heard her explanation about a law that prevented a fuller glass (the martini at another restaurant in Vancouver was "normal") and we left, with nothing to show for our hour spent at this restaurant than an empty "great seafood" recommendation ringing in our ears. We walked hungrily to our hotel restaurant & ate a very late supper.

“Fantastic food”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

My husband and I had a great meal at Coast last night.

The crab stuffed lobster was amazing but the Dover sole (filleted at the table) was one of the best fish dishes I have eaten. The lemon, caper sauce complimented the delicate fish beautifully.

I would recommend this restaurant, great food, busy, buzzy atmosphere, great sommelier, friendly, competent staff. Just go!
