“Rude customer service!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

We try to patronize local eateries. We've been to Central Bistro about 5 times since moving to Vancouver 1.5 years ago. Each time it was a struggle to get service, food very slow to served and a dismissive attitude by staff. Our last visit will be our last. We weren't in a hurry and were looking for a relaxing evening. It took well over an hour to have food arrive and when we asked what was holding up the food we were told 'it takes longer here because everything is made from scratch.' We were just having salad a burgers. Even if they may had to bake the buns and grind the beef it shouldn't have taken as long. It wasn't overly busy. (A group of guys had been seated and about 15 minutes later they went en masse to the front counter and ask to be waited on.)
The wait staff were congregated behind the bar, cranking up the sound, dancing and drinking. The bartender was drinking with customers at the bar. No one seemed to be in charge.
When we left we complained about the service and were told we should find somewhere else to eat next time.
There are many great places in the West End and throughout Vancouver. We don't need attitude like this. We won't be going back and we will be telling others of our experience.

“Great food, great setting, great atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

We ate here on a Monday night and it was buzzing .... probably because it was $5 Martini Monday. Martinis were wonderful, as too was the Long Island Iced Teas! Our meal was steak'n'frites ... absolutely delicious. Service was attentive without being too obtrustive. It had a lively atmosphere, but this wasn't overbearing. Would easily eat here again and would definitely recommend.

“Bartender/bar manager drunk both visits”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

What a beautiful little corner restaurant on Denmon. To bad that I have been there twice now in the past 2 months and the bartender is drunk and being rude to the guests and clientele. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 17 years and have never written a bad review but this guy makes me so angry that I have no choice. It's to bad because I live accross the street and would love to make it a local spot...Bring back the Brass Monkey!

“Comfort, taken to the next level”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

We were welcomed into the restaurant as though we'd known the staff for years. The food was comforting and proof that quality ingredients in the hands of a talented chef is pure magic. I had Roasted Tomato Soup, with a butter-browned soda bread. My friend had a spring greens with strawberries and warm goat cheese, garnished with baby pecans (where do they come from, pecan bushes?). It sounds so simple and every bite was outstanding.
The next morning as we passed by the restaurant, the chef was busy in the kithcen and we popped in to compliment him on our lovely dinner. He wrote down the recipe for the delightful bread so that we could try it at home. It's impossible not to fall in love with that level of committment.
