Description: A Yaletown icon for 15+ years, Brix Restaurant has said goodbye to its downstairs cocktail lounge, George, and brought the newly renovated space together with Brix under one roof and one new name - Brix & Mortar. With the new concept comes a refreshed food and beverage program-including 60+ wines by the glass-offered with the same on-point service, starting at 5:00 pm daily. The new menu features modern Canadian cuisine with subtle French, Italian and Asian influences and locally sourced ingredients. Accessible from both Homer and Hamilton St., Brix & Mortar offers 228 seats, with 80 situated over two outdoor patios, including the iconic outdoor courtyard-a favourite for hosted events and weddings. The downstairs space has undergone an exciting redesign, creating a fine-dining room suitable for any occasion or appetite.

“Pleasant ambience but flawed cooking”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

Climbing stairs through the dark curtain to get to Brix gives a good first impression. Staff seemed a little uncertain initially where to put as we hadn't made a reservation and the manager wasn't available. In the end we were seated in a pleasant area to e back of the restaurant with plenty of space between tables. The menu also gives a good first impression, with Pacific rim dishes jostling with the more conventional. Our starters of pan-fried squid was let down by the over-salty dressing which made it hard to identify much subtlety. My fettuccine with five types of mushroom was perfectly adequate but there was little skill behind the cooking. My partner's dish of halibut on celeriac remoulade with beetroot jus was the worst dish of the evening and totally misjudged. The halibut was overcooked and the syrupy beetroot was more like ketchup and just totally wrong.

“Great service, enchanting courtyard, excellent food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

We were going to a meeting in the Yaletown neighborhood, so we decided to have an early dinner at Brix. It was so wonderful, we came back after our meeting for dessert. The ambiance of the courtyard was wonderful, the entrance through the black curtains gave the feeling of going onstage at a Shakespeare play. The servers were very knowledgeable about the menu, and gave excellent recommendations. They were attentive throughout the meal, and kept our waters and coffees refilled. The food was delicious, creative and well prepared. The carrot soup was savory and had a perfectly creamy texture. The beet salad was a delightful mix of bitter and sweet. The game hen was perfectly cooked, although I felt the sauce clinging to the kale underneath it had too much salt, The sirloin was a little tough, but perfectly cooked and seasoned. The vegetables with it were varied and nicely al dente. The desserts turned out to be well worth the return trip. The "deconstructed" peanut butter cheesecake was rich and delicious, and the textures of the panna cotta and creme brulee were perfect. We enjoyed the unique pistachio amaretti pastry that came with the creme brulee as well. If we lived in Vancouver, we would definitely become regulars here! Thank you to the co-owner Patrick for the personal attention, and for listening to our opinions on the new menu. Bravo!

“amazing food”

Steaks were perfectly cooked and the gnocci dish was unlike anything I had ever tasted. Torsten our waiter was great. We will be back as this is our new favourite restaurant in Yaletown.

Brix is a great restaurant with a central location. Prices are average for a city. Menu is imaginative. Good Value.
