“It's a great hotel ... but”
Reviewed May 25, 2014

We are regular Marriott Elite members but, buoyed by the wonderful reviews from Trip Advisor, we thought we’d try the Loden for this visit to Vancouver, before an Alaska cruise. We came with very high expectations that were not quite met every time.

Our check-in was flawless, the people at the front desk and the bell station were affable enough and got the job done. There was nothing spectacular, nor was there anything spectacular they could have done. The room was very nice, finishings were top notch, albeit the bed was a little soft for our tastes.

We were in a corner vista room and paid a premium for the view, which was mostly other high-rises, with small space to see the harbor in two directions. We were already aware of that, so no big deal. What bothered us was that we were at the end of the hallway and the Wi-Fi barely made it to the room. It was interminably slow and got cut off from time to time. We had planned to download our most recent podcasts, books, and movies for our upcoming cruise. Normally this would take perhaps 15 minutes was not completed overnight. We took our iPads and Phones to breakfast a few blocks away and downloaded on the free Wi-Fi there in a few minutes. When we asked at the front desk, the staff suggested we try the lobby Wi-Fi. It was a little better, but still inadequate. In my opinion, we shouldn’t pay a premium price and be penalized with poor Wi-Fi.

The previously mentioned (also in Trip Advisor) remote control for the intricate TV system seemed rather slow, sometimes taking over 30 seconds for the TV to recognize a command and carry it out. Sometimes we thought that the TV didn’t get the command and tried it again. Bad move – sometimes the TV just turned off. It all seemed needlessly complicated.

In all, it was a very nice hotel with good friendly people. It just failed on a few points, making our stay lower than anticipated.

Room Tip: End of hall rooms have limited WiFi Coverage.

I decided to try something new when staying in Vancouver this time and the Loden did not disappoint. The location, being in Coal Harbor, was a treat. A treat because although you're most definitely in Vancouver, you're also just out of the hustle and bustle. A few short blocks your on the seawall taking in the calm or a few short blocks in the opposite direction, you're in traffic, lights and shopping. Everything is in walking distance no matter which direction your compass takes you.

As for the hotel, I truly enjoyed my stay. The staff were very helpful, my room was modern and gorgeous and the fact it's a boutique hotel made everything that much better.

If you're tired of hotels like the Four Seasons, Pan Pacific, etc then the Loden is a must.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Rooms are comfortable...especially the bed and bathrooms. I really appreciated the personal service like when I called for a wake up call, they asked how I liked my room.

This is one little chic hotel. The staff are so lovely, I cannot fault this place. The room was so comfortable and ultra modern. They have complimentary bikes, try it out, we don't ride every day but it only took us one and half hours to ride around Stanley park, great way to see the park.

Room Tip: The higher up the better views.

Located in the sweet spot of downtown the hotel greets you with a warm welcome with it's stylish lobby. Lovely ladies check you in and the rooms are a good size with large bathrooms. We stayed in 1001 which is a corner room. Great views, but the wifi is weak when laying in bed. The hotel restaurant has great food and an accomplished bartender. Bike rentals and local car service are free, so take advantage. Apparently Melville Street is famous for TV filming and our trip didn't disappoint with a Nissan commercial.

was here for one brief night for work..the room was peaceful (i slept 8 hours! as a new yorker that is unheard of!) and the staff was incredibly helpful...suggesting places to hang out and eat during my stay. They also all had a great senses of humor, which is the most important quality in the end, really. One other thing: as a light sleeper, at hotels I am usually really bothered by the sound of slamming doors from other rooms in the morning...not a problem here at all...

The location of the hotel is fabulous and we loved the complimentary British Cab service. A lot of Vancouver can be experienced by walking and the location of the Loden is perfect for the on foot traveler. Our dog traveled with us for the first time internationally and upon entering the hotel, th front desk team greeted us with "This must be Sophie, welcome!" What a nice touch. We plan to return to Vancouver next year and the Loden is on our list of "must dos". One recommendation is to improve the stability/reliability of the wifi. Thank you Loden team for a wonderful visit, take care!

Room Tip: Initially we booked a double double room to share with a friend, and the room is too small to accomm...
