Thankyou Granville House for making our stay in Vancouver a most memorable experience. Walking through your green neighbourhood was a great complement to the peaceful atmosphere that we felt while staying in 'Cedar Room'. The online reservation system that you maintain is also a strong point that we have apreciated very much. You have a very hospitable dwelling that appeals to international travellers.
Hasta luego!

Room was very comfortable, spacious and well-appointed. Breakfasts were terrific - a creme brulee french toast one day, vegetable omelette another and the best raisin bread for toast. We were given maps and lots of information about restaurants (all of which were great). Location was great; you could walk to Granville Island and further on to downtown or take a bus which stopped quite close by. All in all a very good stay and if I'm every in Vancouver again, I would definitely stay there.

This B&B is written up as a high end facilitty. We paid almost CND 300 for one night. We arrived late due to flight delays and lost luggage. We asked to have the person at the B&B accept the suitcases when they arrived, but were told that no one is at the B&B most of the time. We also asked if we could have breakfast early ( 0730) as we had to catch the ferry early in the morning, but were told that breakfast is served only at 0900. After considerable discussion we did get the breakfast, but a precooked, very small powdered egg wattery omlette, heated in the microwave. There was also cereal, milk and coffee, although no dairy milk. We had to use soya milk until the manager arrived at around 0745 am to make our 'breakfast' and provide some real milk. This would all have been acceptable for a $65-75/night room, but not one at almost 300/night. I would not stay there again--you get almost nothing for the money, and unpleasant surley service

We thank you for your comments and appreciate anyone who takes the time to comment on TripAdvisor, as this is a great way for potential guests to get a better idea of who we are. We also appreciate every guest who chooses our B&B over a chain hotel while searching for accommodations in Vancouver. Although we understand some of your frustrations, I feel obliged to correct some misconceptions in this review:

These guests paid $245 for a single night in our Cedar Master suite. A second night would have only cost $171.50 more, as per our website. The implication is that our price is high, which is not true. We have a short 3 month Peak Season of July-September with rates starting from $150/night, and a 7 month Low Season of October-April with rates starting from $100/night. These rates are very reasonable in our market. In fact, the longer guests stay with us, the less they pay per night, which is very unique among B&Bs.

These guests stayed in our 500sf Cedar Suite which (like all our suites) has a king bed, cotton sheets, down duvet, a 32" LCD TV with free HD programming and a luxurious en-suite bathroom. This bathroom was renovated 3 years ago for $40,000 to include a walk in Grohe Aquatower shower, separate Japanese soaker tub and soft close Toto toilet. Granville House B&B is a 6,000sf modern home in what Wikipedia describes as Vancouver's wealthiest neighbourhood. Yet we are compared to a $65 hotel, with a TripAdvisor review of 1/5 for value, 2/5 for service and rated 2/5 overall. So be it.

Way Over Rated? We are proud to state that we are Vancouver's only 2011 Canada-Select 5 Star B&B. We are also proud of all but 5 of our current 72 TripAdvisor reviews. I assure you that my wife & I still loose sleep over the 5 TA reviews that have a Traveller Rating of 3/5 or less, as we feel we let these guests down. But this review is titled Way Over Rated... If this is in response to our 62 Excellent and 5 Very Good TripAdvisor reviews, I would urge any TA reader to take individual reviews with a grain of salt, but to pay attention to trends. If this is to say Canada-Select has way over rated us, I would like to point out that Canada Select is Canada's ONLY national accommodations rating program for bed and breakfasts, cottages, hotels, motels, inns, resorts, and fishing/hunting lodges. Canada Select uses constant guideline across Canada for all accommodations. I can assure readers here that Granville House B&B's 5 Star rating is due to our cleanliness & amenities which are very important to these annual surprise inspections. This rating is very hard to achieve and allows us to stand out among B&Bs.

Although these guests arrived late & left early, this is never a problem at the Granville House B&B as guests are given time sensitive door codes for secure keyless access, and payment is processed prior to arrival. Although we make note of each guests check in times and endeavour to meet them, no formal check in is required. All paperwork is left inside the room for guests to sign & return at their liesure. Check out is as simple as closing the door behind you. Most B&Bs would require a 2 hour window to meet the hosts, or be forced to knock on the door. Most B&Bs, hotels or motels require signatures &/or keys to be returned at check out. Although we have the quickest check-in and check-out policy in the industry, we are happy to spend hours with our guests whether they are coming or going.

We would never say: No one is at the B&B most of the time. Quite the opposite. We run a staff of 6 at the Granville House B&B: Pam & Randy Vogel (owner managers who live onsite), Shandy Rae (full time Innkeeper), Lyka (full time Executive Housekeeper;-), Ren & Corie (part time Housekeepers). As such, we guarantee someone will be at this property during office hours (say 7am to 5pm). We sometimes go out for dinner (with our iPhones) but will always be home from 9pm to 7am, as we go to bed early.

These guests checked in at 7:30pm, and left around 8am the next morning, after a full breakfast. They were very frustrated when they arrived as their airline had lost their luggage, which is very unfortunate. They asked us to wait for their luggage to be delivered, which we agreed to do so they could go out for dinner. The luggage arrived that night by courier, 4 hours after they checked in.

The guests also informed us that they would be departing by 8:00am for Victoria BC and requested a hot entree at 7:30am. We agreed to this and started our breakfast routine early enough to make these guests a fresh free range egg, sausage & broccoli frittata, served with Pam's fresh baked Morning Glory muffins. I assure those reading this review that we would never serve: pre-cooked, very small powdered egg watery omlette, heated in the microwave. Although we have a deluxe continental breakfast available from 5am to 11am, our website states that we bring a hot dish out between 8:30am & 10am, as this is the maximum time BC Food Safe recommends for safe consumption.

On a positive note, many of our guests must also leave before the 8:30am hot dish. Sometimes to catch a flight home, or catch a 20 minute seaplane ride to Victoria, or to drive the 1.5 hours to Whistler mountain. Our flexible 5-11am breakfast times, along with our ability to cater to special dietary needs and 6 individual linen covered tables is very unique among Vancouver B&Bs.

So to recap, during the 12 hours these guests stayed with us, we waited 4 hours for their lost luggage to be delivered, and at their request, cooked and served their hot entree an hour earlier then our website states. They seemed very happy when they left, but we will lose sleep knowing that there was something else we could have done to earn a 5/5 TA Traveller Review which is typical of most of our guest reviews.

We had a large party of 8. The location of the house is perfect and satisfied everyones needs! Right down the street from downtown! The breakfast was great. A different one everyday. We even got recipes! The ladies that work the b&b are fabulous! They put waters in the room everyday, helped us plan out our days, and even had bus passes for us. They also gave us access to a phone that called the US for free. Even though the rooms did not have a kitchen, downstairs where we had breakfast there was plates and bowls and always had cereal and yogurt. Also the bathrooms and bedrooms were great too. All the little things you use at home, they had there or tried to have it for you. Wonderful place!

Enjoyed our stay. The room was lovely and bathroom huge with plenty of space for our things. Water pressure a bit weak though. Large walk in closet with safe. Free telephone service. Plush WHITE wall-to-wall carpeting so there is a no shoes policy. We were a bit nervous about getting it dirty-how about a nice pinewood parquet floor eh?
Staff friendly and welcoming.
Great breakfast- they even made us special menus without meat and for my lactose intolerant husband.
Location is great for getting around.

We have recently enjoyed a week at Granville House whilst visiting our daughter. We were delighted with all aspects of our stay. Having found Granville House on the internet (not via our daughter who visited for the first time the night before our arrival to leave a gift - how lovely!) from our initial contact to our arrival no problems.
Pam and Randy, together with their lovely staff made us feel very welcome. We had mentioned that our daughter may wish to stay a few nights also and once the evenings were confirmed, the sofa bed was made up, due to the spacious room size (we stayed in the Alder Suite) this posed no inconvenience to us at all during our stay. We were delighted to see that an extra bathrobe, tea cup, towels and bottled water had been placed in the room ready for her arrival. The extra charge of $25 incl. breakfast was well worth it. We have had previous experiences where even though we had booked as a threesome, found only two teacups etc. in the room! This type of oversight shows lack of thought and certainly Pam and Randy had everything covered.
As other guests have commented the breakfast certainly can see you through the day and it was interesting for us to see what 'hot dish' was provided as these were quite different to an English hot breakfast. It was good to experience something new - personally I enjoyed the hot oats (porridge) prepared daily in a slow cooker.
We would hope to visit Vancouver again as our time was too short in this lovely city and would happily stay again in one of Randy and Pam's establishments.
The cleanliness, decor and location were excellent.

My husband and I happened to find Granville House after a fruitless search for a local hotel. Thank goodness we did...this was much better than anything we would have found in the same price range. The room was immaculate and huge (we stayed in the Cedar suite) - beautiful bathroom with soaker tub and full shower, along with a separate sitting room/working area, in addition to a comfortable king size bed. The room was tastefully decorated and all the little touches were appreciated - from the bar fridge to the iPod-friendly alarm clock, to the tea box with a selection of herbal teas.

Breakfast was delicious and healthy - every morning, in the beautiful dining/sitting room on the main floor, we were greeted by Randy and a full pot of coffee! It was obvious he and his wife love hosting guests, and were always full of ideas for sightseeing and things to do around the city. The rest of the staff were equally welcoming and accommodating...no request was too much.

Aside from the kind hospitality we received, the other thing we liked about this place was the thoughtfulness of little things, such as a phone in the living room for free N America phone calls and the availability of refreshments any time of the day.

Location-wise, the B&B is a short (10 mins) bus ride away from downtown. The bus stop is a few steps from the front door. The neighborhood is quiet and full of beautiful old houses...a great area to walk around in and explore, with several amazing gardens and parks nearby.

It definitely feels like you're at home...only more comfortable and luxurious!
