“University in a Spectacular Setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

Canada's major western university with lots of interesting architecture demonstrating the evolution of a big university over more than 100 years - and all in a great geographic location but make sure it's a sunny day as this is a crummy place in the rain. Take in the Museum of Anthropology and the UBC Botanical Garden on the same trip.

“Something for Everyone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2012

When I was a kid, back in the late 1950's, I used to visit my cousin who lived in Point Grey every summer, and the Empire Pool at UBC was one of our favourite haunts. The other was the farm on the property back then, we took bread out to lure the turkeys to the fence so we could steal a tailfeather or two to make quill pens.
The new UBC campus is almost unrecognizable from back then, the Museum of Anthropology, Chan Center For the Arts and expanded Botanical Gardens have been added over the years, joining an explosion of building on the campus, new admin, educational and residential towers have grown up, as has on campus housing, UBC is now larger than many towns in BC. The great thing though is that this has all been managed so well that green spaces abound, athletic fields and bike paths are plentiful, access to Wreck Beach is still available, and most of all, the landscaping has been amazing. Go in October to enjoy the amazing colours of the various oak trees on campus, or in Summer check out Empire Pool, it is still there....
Take you bike and spend a day exploring UBC, it is flat and bike lanes make it safe.
Most of all, try to get out to one of the Open House events, be amazed at the cutting edge research and technology happening out there.
Best of all, access is Free for public areas, and entrance fees are reasonable for concerts at the Chan or a visit to the Museum of Anthropology.

“Not to be missed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2012

If you are visiting as a tourist, UBC is not to be missed. There are so many wonderful things to see and do in this city within a city. The location is beautiful to start with, but on top of that there is a Botanical Garden with a tree top walk, a Japanese garden and the museums! A great way to spend a day.
