Owner description: This expansive beach offers fantastic picnicking opportunities, swimming, beach volleyball, or simply a panoramic view of Vancouver and the mountains. Spanish Banks tends to be a quieter beach which makes it very family-friendly.

“Best Beach in Vancouver”
Reviewed March 9, 2012

Unlike wreck, you don't have to deal with naked creepies creepin' on ya. Unlike Kits, you don't have to deal with gaggles of roid-monkies, fake-tans, and no space. Unlike Jericho, it's just a bit quieter but still same view. Basically it's more secluded, but not totally, best views of North and West Van and downtown, best views of sunset because you can see it reflect off of downtown.... just amazing...
PLUS! If you like skim boarding, it's called spanish BANKS because when the tide is out, the sand banks stretch into the bay for nearly a kilometre and leave little water pools all over the place. During season, the concession stands are open, otherwise you have to bring drinks or snacks since the closest main street area is quite a ways away. Other than that, perfect place to relax and watch the day go by.

“between ubc and jericho beach”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

must be reached by car. lots of parking. sea, sand and logs to sit on -- typical vancouver beach. no snack shacks, less popular w/ residents than jericho therefore less crowded. easy access from the university.

“The best place for a picnic”
Reviewed February 21, 2012

This is THE place for a picnic- on a sunny day in the summer we often meet up in the late afternoon and watch the sun go down to the west, north the mountains and east is downtown Vancouver. You can buy fish and chips there, better to go to Granville island or Pantheon on Broadway to pick up some tasty food, bring a blanket and some drink and you are there . There is no public alcohol consumption on the beach, it is patrolled, but if you are discreet, we have never had any issues with accompanying the picnic with a nice crisp Pinot Blanc from the okanagan. Bring a blanket and bathing suits and maybe a kite.
