Visited this area on my first day in Vancouver with my sister in law as she was attending an interview nearby and I went to change money at VBCE ( Vancouver Bullion and Currency Exchange ) which just happened to be on Granville Street near to where she was having her job interview, by coincidence.
VBCE had been recommended on the Vancouver Forum on TA as a good place to change money so I went there. There was a long queue to change money when I went around lunchtime but the cashier was quick and helpful when I finally got to the counter after 30 minutes and commission was minimal.
Opposite VBCE was Chapters Bookshop which is big with 2 floors and a great selection of books and stationery ( some good reductions too) and a Starbucks attached so I mooched round in there for a long time. Then I walked along Granville for a while to look at the shops: lots of good shops, small independent shops and larger names such as the UGG Shop and many others and lots of interesting " lifestyle" type shops as well as coffee shops, pastry shops and others, even the British store the Body Shop.
South Granville has a nice feel to it with some interesting shops: a mix of high fashion shops such as DKNY, jewellery stores and also art galleries and antique type shops and even a theatre which gives it a slightly Bohemian feel. I went into a drug store chain to buy some make up as a present for my daughter and found a famous English make up brand which is manufactured in the UK but much cheaper in Canada . Figure that one out!
