“I love this place!”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

I pass through Vancouver a couple of time a year and I always visit this place. I love the pub downstairs, the food and especially the atmosphere.
The accomodation was backpacker style...no complaints. I don't hang out in the rooms or upsatirs. I am usually down in the pub enjoying myself. Best pub in Van!

Just like many others who have had to do this, Awoke at 2am horrified to see big brown patches all over my sheets in this place; INFESTED WITH BEDBUGS I went to reception where even worse the apathetic receptionist was unsurprised and offered to put me into to a 6 dorm (to move me out and say noting) when I was in a 2 bed previously. Aside from not apologizing and not being absolutley mortified, what really disturbed me was he knew there was someone else in the room with me and had no intention of letting him know or doing anything about it. Oh and the icing on the cake after making a complaint to the manager (a bald, unhelpful, hostile guy) he seemed just uninterested and happy to move the problem along without doing anything about it whatsoever. Honestly gives Hostelling a disgracful name.

Room Tip: Stay anywhere outside the building if you don´t wanna catch it

I managed to stay at all the major hostels in Vancouver for at least a couple of days and I would rate the Cambie Gastown the highest.

It's a hostel so don't expect too much.. but the beds are comfy, good location, pub below with good cheap food and beer, good atmosphere and reasonably priced.

Everything you'd want from a hostel.

Stayed there for one night to get my connection flight. Got 2 bedroom, bed was okay. One shower didn't work in the bath, kitchen was just on the other side of the street. Hostel is quiet near to Granville street which is closed down every weekend and a great place to go out there as well as Malone's right below the hostel. Staff was very kind.

For people who doesn't know The Cambie, it's located right in downtown. You can't miss the opportunity to stay in a hostel for a couple of days while in Vancouver. You can go alone or with your family. Be aware that you have one bathroom per gender per floor (two floor in total) and the rooms may be small. Nonetheless with all of the activities organized by the staff or currently happening in downtown, you don't really feel it. Don't hesitate to take the Cambie Card as it gives you discount on the rates and others activities.

So here you go, enjoy your trip.

All of these reviews are REALLY misleading. When my girlfriend and I went here everything was great. The rooms were a great size, beds were awesome, nice and comfy, and no bug problems. Its very safe and secure to stay here.
The bar downstairs is awesome and seems to be the place to go.
You'll definitely be able to sleep if your on the second floor; not so sure about the first but the bar shuts down really early anyway.
Don't let the area scare you away either;the hobos that flock around are ALL over Vancouver, and are unavoidable. But they're totally harmless.
The free breakfast was nice too.
The only bad thing I would say about this place is the service was average or a little below.
All in all five out of five.

We booked here as it was one of the cheapest hostels in Vancouver but saying that was still $35 a night each incl tax! For $35 I would expect a luxury hostel but it's actually a bit of a dive! The 4 bed room was clean but to small we couldn't move! There was one ladies bathroom for whole floor which had 2 showers with see throughish doors and one toilet as the other was broken and not fixed in the 4 nights I was there! The kitchen is so small and doesnt even have a kettle! Now the positives are the location is great, gastown is sooo cool and it's right by the metro system and you can go from airport to hostel on sky train for only $7.50 no hasstle. The hostel also has a nice bar downstairs but you can't hear it in the room (not on 2nd floor anyway) also you get a lovely free muffin and drink every morning from the cutesy cafe next door. So all in all do stay here as it's so expensive to stay anywhere else but be aware it's not the nicest hostel.
