When we arrived in our room, our first impression was not good and things did not really improve. First of all, the hallway leading to the room was extremely hot with no ventilation. When we got to our stifling hot room we were surprised to find that we were on the main floor and the bedroom windows were sealed shut (and the concrete around the window frame was crumbling). As there was no air conditioning, the room was unbearably stuffy. Even though we managed to ventilate the room by opening a rickety sliding door and turning on the fan. It was not going to be practical to sleep with the sliding door open on the main floor as anyone could walk in from outside and take things while we were asleep. In fact the room keys carries a warning that security in the hotel is a major issue.
When we called the front desk to ask if we could switch rooms, they were unable to help since the hotel was full & there were no rooms empty. They suggested another fan (but that's useless unless you can open the window to draw in cool air). We realized that the front desk staff are probably not trained in the hotel industry, but simply university staff.
For a "deluxe suite", as they advertise, the standard of the room was very poor. Apart from the crumbling window frames, the sofa was tatty and the fabric was peeling apart. The kitchen did have very basic supplies but no dishwasher. Also, we noticed that there was no sealed mattress cover on the bed.
The bathroom had been re-done, and was actually the nicest part of the suite!
In truth you're paying an awful lot for student accommodation that has been barely spruced up with a bit of paint - but the building is barely maintained.
We quickly shortened our 3 nights stay to 1, since they were going to charge us for the night as a cancellation fee at that point. The hotel is horribly over priced, and should actually not be rented out until routine building maintenance is done & doors and windows are better secured.
