I found downtown Vancouver and Vancouver overall a little boring as a tourist. The area around Robson felt somewhat pretentious, lacking in history and character.
Its just shops and restaurants. Most of them chains.
It just didnt have an identity to me. Just stylish people(Asians) dressed up to go shopping.

The high rises around seem like cookie cutter architecture. All the same window shapes, proportions, height etc.

Gastown probably is the most interesting.

If you are from a large city, (Los Angeles, NYC, etc), Vancouver and its "streets" arent all that interesting.

Downtown Vancouver during the Christmas season is an experience unto itself. The hustle and polite bustle of shoppers looking for the best gift, and temperate climate make the experience fun.

All kinds of things to see and do. Great public transportation that starts at the airport to downtown (light rail). Only $2.25. A taxi would have been $40.00 + tip.

I think it's all covered in the tourist brochures... I like the "atmosphere" best, very "big city" ... I grew up in Vancouver, we always went downtown for everything.. the changes of the years have been a good improvement.

Every type of shop you want from Coach to bargain shops. Get to Robson Street and spend an few hours shopping and visiting restaurants. Get to Davies street for cheaper eats and more variety of foods. Bus system to excellent all taxis are small and energy efficient. People are friendly. Even the few panhandlers are polite! Get to Canada Place for more sites and do not miss a trip to Stanley park.
