We ate at Fable with our 4 year old and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. The appetizers were some of the best I've had and our som loved the spaghetti appetizer which he had as his main. The place fills up so make sure you have reservations. Definitely will return.

Ideal is not necessarily 100% perfection, in my books. Ideal is that the chef tries to bring his best ideas to the diners, and succeeds far more often than he fails.

Pine tables, exposed brick, fairly noisy.

"Canned tuna"--a mason jar with tuna, olive oil, cherry tomato, some potato, seasoning on a spoon on the side and baguette crisps--mix it up and eat it; very successful;

halibut lettuce wrap--fairly ho-hum; and

"spaghetti and meatballs"--really tagliatelle with a minced duck meatball, crunchy outside, duck jus inside that comes out when you cut the meatball open, all covered with cream of parmigiano. This app is to DIE for!! we ordered and devoured a second one.

Gnocchi with pea puree, peas, pea shoots. Each part of this was fine but they did not work together.
Duck breast with creamed cabbage, with millefeuille cracker with vegetables on it. Phenomenal.
Slow cooked trout. Perfectly done, awesome!

Vanilla custard, covered with thin layer of white chocolate then delicious tart rhubarb jelly and pieces--died and went to heaven.
Lemon meringue cup--nicely done!
Gorgonzola cheesecake with pear spheres...ech, this one needs a re-do.

So not everything worked, but everything that did work was spectacular. As well, they ran out of cornbread (or any bread) by 19:30--who runs out of bread at the beginning of dinnertime?

The bill: $180 for 3 people to eat 5 apps, 3 mains, 3 desserts, and corgage. Cheap! One of the most delicious and creative meals I've had all year.

We arrived in Vancouver and looked for a good restaurant recommendation. Fable did NOT disappoint! We had the Canned Tuna - No can involved! Fabulous!!! The entrees were solid, and the dessert was innovative and Excellent! (Lemon Meringue). The staff was all very friendly and knowledeable about a variety of dining options in the area. We had to come back for our last dinner in Vancouver! Felt like instant family - I will miss these guys! PS. See posted pic of appetizer and dessert chefs - they are single and they can cook girls! FYI

I have gone to Fable many times, starting with the first visit during their first week after opening. The food, service and overall experience were amazing the first time and have remained consistently great with each subsequent visit. The first dinner was with my wife, and we've returned many times with friends, family and our out-of-town visitors to share our love of this restaurant.

The food at Fable is always great - wonderfully prepared without being too 'fussy'. Trevor Bird and his team always manage to provide dishes that are wonderfully balanced in flavors, textures as well as visually. The service is a good mix of attentive, knowledgable and friendly - be sure to take any suggestions they may have.

As a bonus, small groups can request the chef's table seats on the bar right in front of the kitchen. We usually request these seats to get a great view of the talented kitchen crew in action.

Put aside the restaurant's atmosphere for a moment - warm, cozy, and a little like being snuggled up inside a log cabin on a lake - or the service, which was equally memorable as the head chef visited our table. The food was outstanding! We started with the cornbread, which they make to order. It also comes with a spicy jalapeno butter - yum. I had the "canned tuna" for an appetizer. Don't be fooled by the strange name. It's delicious. I asked about it and they said it's one of their top sellers. They put raw tuna, fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and preserved lemon in a little mason jar and boil it until it's cooked. The finished product is flavourful and satisfying. I had the daily special for my main, which was a halibut dish. All the food is fresh and creative, and (apparently) Fable uses the entire animal when they cook with meat, which - being a bit of a softy - I really like. Definitely worth a visit.
