We were biking along the Vancouver Seawall and decided to stop by The Sylvia Hotel and visit their restaurant patio for some nacho's and beer. The outside deck was not open due to a staffing shortage but when I asked if we could sit there anyway, they were more than pleased to accommodate. We were a group of five thirsty cyclists in the middle of a very hot September Indian Summer day and Sylvia's was a welcome respite from the grueling peddling we had been doing all day to work up an appetite. Our server was quick with the jugs of water to get us hydrated.
The nacho's filled our need just perfectly. Two orders were devoured with not a tiny slice of a black olive left behind as evidence. They were nicely accompanied by separate dishes of guacamole, sour cream and salsa (for an extra charge) and a couple of pitchers of Red Truck lager which was recommended by our waitress.
The view over English Bay was spectacular and since we were a group from Newfoundland, Sweden and Vancouver it made for a very memorable afternoon for all.
Since I didn't try any of the other menu items, I cannot say how good they may be, however, my very good friend dines there regularly and always raves about the restaurant, service and great prices. As for the location, you just can't beat it. So, give it a try if your are visiting our beautiful city; you won't be disappointed.
