As other reviewers commented, the Dine Out experience here was a disappointment (similar to Salt tasting room review actually). Remarkably, many choices of beers were unavailable. Also, the food selection was poor. The food itself was okay, nothing great. Kale salad seems to be de rigeur in Vancouver restaurants these days, some imagination would be nice.

Service was friendly, and the staff tried their best to smooth over the other deficiencies by giving lots of information on the beer that was actually available. The seating was pathetic, metal stools a la Salt Tasting rooms. A great way to ensure clients don't stick around too long! Atmosphere of the place was otherwise quite nice, however.

Enjoyed some fine beers at Bitter. Friendly, helpful staff and a great beer menu. Can't comment on the food as I didn't have any. I'll be going back to try some.

A group of us went to the Bitter Tasting Room for Dine Out. The main entree was 3 tacos. The tacos were smaller than my palm, with a tiny dollop of filling on them. Then when the waitress came back to check on us shortly after serving us our food, she had the audacity to say, "oh, you're all done?!". Well, yes, when each taco can be consumed in one bite, it really doesn't take long to get through dinner. I was shocked that they were getting away with such a tiny dinner. Afterwards my husband and I got fast food because our hunger was barely diminished. I'm not planning on returning. Oh, also, their chairs are made of metal and have no support for your back, they are basically stools - not comfortable.

We visited Bitter in Jan. 2014 for Dine Out. They were out of quite a few beers. They had VERY FEW food choices and they ran out of 2 of the 4 types of tacos on offer, the ONLY main food dish on offer!! The soup was good, as was mousse, but to be out of beer and tacos was pathetic. I thought maybe they were new at this, but then read other reviews here, this isn't their first time being part of Dine Out!? Only go here for a beer...

Using the term "pub" or even its own chosen description "tasting room" doesn't suit Bitter. It is an old fashioned bar, the kind that used to have signs saying "Ladies and Escorts".

The location is definitely dodgy -- pretty much at Ground Zero for the downtown eastside. There is definitely lots of character to the neighbourhood. The decor is early forties basic, including metal stools to sit on.

Still, it works. They have a terrific selection of beers from all over the world and at all price points. Staff were all very knowledgable about the selections and not afraid to make a recommendation for something new.

Food is very much bar food -- pickled eggs, devilled eggs, chilli, pork crackling, ploughmans lunch, sausages. We were there as a group so were able to sample a wide selection. All very good tasting, if not real healthy for your arteries.

Prices were reasonable. Beers varied from $6 to $32 (yes, really). They have flights of 3 x 5 oz tasters. Pilsners flight was $11, stout flight was $15.

There is a modest list of wines and beer-based cocktails. The menu includes a few more substantial items, so it would be possible to have a meal. Food is clearly not the focus. It is all about the beer, and they do that very, very well.
