Description: Welcome to The French TableFormer Master Executive Chef Herve Martin is proud to present his newest eating establishment, The French Table. Nestled cosily in the Riley Park area on Main St & 23rd Ave, it’s a far away from the former Hermitage restaurant, which was a downtown staple on Robson Street for 24 years until last year. After the developer announced new plans, Herve patiently and rightfully re-located to an area that’s ripe for a surburban French cuisine in this up and coming, bustling area. The French Table still carries the tradition of its former self, especially with the outstanding first class servers, whom he successfully carried over but also has a modern flair. Clean lines, open room, first comes into mind when first stepping inside. Unlike the traditional white table cloths, Herve cleverly designed its logo under the glass tables bearing The French table signature, a very nice touch. Tables line the walls for best view of everything. You can select from a menu created by Master Chef Herve Martin and served in the traditional French style. The critically acclaimed wine list boasts one of the best selections of Burgundy wines in Vancouver and is highlighted with exclusive wines from the family winery in Chamilly, France.

We enjoyed a dinner for two on a Friday night in this upscale but unpretentious restaurant on Main St. The service was attentive and informative but not intrusive. The decor is unremarkable.
I had the duck terrine (ok) and the Coq Au Vin which was excellent.
My husband had the French Onion soup (very good) and the Duck confit cassoulet whcih was excellent. We shared the profiteroles and we each had a glass of red wine and a coffee and the bill before tipping was $120.
Only down side is that table are very close to one another and we had noisy neighbours which took away a bit from the "date night" atmosphere we were hoping for.

Dinner for a party of four, all the dishes were very good from appetizers through the desserts. Service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant is small and has a nice ambiance. We will definitely return. Very nice selection of wines.

A new French Bistro opened a year ago by the long time chef/owner of L'Hermitage, a hidden gem on Robson Street closed for redevelopment. Relocated to emerging go-to Main Street village location. Comfortable, modern, uwelcoming room, usually hosted by owner. Well connected family from Burgundy, wine list French oriented, lists his sister's wine, and the house red is an impressive special import. Sure touch shows with the classics, all well presented, and daily specials well worth trying at fairly modest cost (rent and prices much less than Robsonstrasse). Recent pork medallions with chanterelles sublime. Several visits now, consistent and dependable.

We just came from a most wonderful dinner! This is "The Hermitage" without the fussiness of a white tablecloth but with all the classic dishes of a French bistro, reasonably priced, served with personal charm in a warm room. We weren't expecting this on Main street. The food was very good to excellent. The menu varies so I won't critique the items. The best part was that it wasn't overly busy so we delighted in the extra attention of and conversation with Herve Martin who clearly knows his business and how to charm his customers. Between ourselves, my husband and I decided to return with house guests coming next month. Then as we were leaving, M. Martin gave me a jar of apricot jam that he made. Yum! Of course, now we will definitely be returning to dine and to bring the empty jar back so that he can refill it for me next jam making season.

Everything about our experience was first rate, from the welcome of the staff to the decor, the ambiance, and above all, the meal and the wine. I was with "regulars" of the establishment, which no doubt enhanced the warmth of the welcome and the quality of the service, but I cannot relate to some other reviews which are less than flattering about the service. I am not in a position to compare it with other French bistros in Vancouver, but based on my extensive experience of such establishments in France and elsewhere, I'd rate this highly.
