Spent a couple of nights and received outstanding service in a great location. Also booked a room for a friend and her dog, both of whom staff went above and beyond to accommodate. Haven't found a hotel in Vancouver that I like nearly as much.

We chose the Opus because of the proximity to the Skytrain station as well as being in the heart of Yaletown. We decided not to rent a car for the weekend as we wanted to find out if we could get around without one. The location of the Opus was perfect for us. We also enjoyed the comforts that the hotel offered. The people who worked at the Opus could not be more helpful.
It was a great stay, expensive but good value for the dollar.

Room Tip: King room on top floor was terrific.

Spent a week there for a business trip, and wanted to stay close to the heart of the city to experience it better. Couldn't have chosen a better place to stay, as the location of the hotel is really great, close to the water and parks, and surrounded with nice restaurants and bars.

Comfort was also great, and the only annoying thing during this stay was the poor quality of the internet connection anywhere in the hotel. It is indeed provided for free which is good, but it remains very slow and goes down often, which can be an issue when traveling for business.

Still highly recommended.

Dear SnowyBadger,

Thank you very much for taking the time to send in your comments. We were very happy to see that you enjoyed your overall stay with us, but wanted to apologize for the challenges you experienced with our Wi-Fi connection. We have just finished the process of upgrading our bandwidth into the property, which unfortunately caused some disruptions with our service. We do hope to welcome you back to OPUS in the future, at which time we can assure you that you will have a problem free Wi-Fi connection, while enjoying remarkably faster speeds, at no extra charge. Thank you again for your feedback, and for choosing to stay at OPUS!

I recently stayed at the Opus for a few nights while in Vancouver for business.

I'd heard about this hotel for years as the cool, trendy place to stay, so I was curious about how good it would be.

Frankly, the rooms were a little disappointing. They make a big deal about the room themes, which are cool, but in the end you're just staying in one room and the theme doesn't make a big difference. The room was not very large. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows weren't great. And the bathroom was pretty average, with a shower that didn't have much pressure and didn't deliver an even flow.

On the other hand, the service was extremely good. Incredibly positive and welcoming. Staff remembered my name and details of my trip. They were ready to help out in any way. The service is the only reason why I'm giving an Excellent rating.

Value was reasonable, but I needed to park a car. The only option was valet service, which at $37/night is a little steep.

The Opus provided comfort and style fitting to an upscale weekend getaway. We were upgraded on arrival to a stunning suite with a minimum rate increase and maximum view! Our adolescent children slept comfortably on roll-away beds in front of the fireplace. They enjoyed the 3D TV and complimentary surprise treats in the evening while we enjoyed the workout room and cocktail lounge.

The Opus staff made a reservation for us at Blue Water Cafe and when we arrived at the restaurant freshly baked gluten free bread was brought to our table. I realized I had asked about gluten free restaurants when booking our room a month earlier. That level of attention to detail truly sets the Opus Hotel apart from the others.

Quick, one night trip to the city from Vancouver Island. Opus was a perfect location for shopping, restaurants, etc. Close to skytrain, bikes and car service available - very convenient. Room was perfect and staff were very friendly and fun. Highly recommend this hotel.

Overall, our stay at the Opus was positive, comfortable, and fun. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-appointed and the hotel is absolutely ideally located in the heart of Yaletown. The beds, sheets, and showers are all of the highest quality and they all paint the picture of a comforting stay.

That said, there are some quite noticeable gaps in both the service and various aspects of the physical spaces. While some employees are stand-outs and offer exemplary service, the same cannot be said across the board. For example, upon returning the hotel's complimentary bikes (another nice perk), we went to the front desk to return out lock keys and the employee asked if we had locked the bikes.

We told her we had parked them out front of the door (there are no obvious spots to lock up the bikes), a decision which was greeted by the front desk staff with confusion and annoyance. She asked us "uhh, if we could lock them up to something outside" which we did. We came back inside to return the keys and were asked *where* we'd locked them, to which we replied that we had found some parking sign poles to affix them to.

That was met with an "ohh, okay, I guess." We retired to our room. Non-attentive staff in the hotel restaurant composed themselves in a similar vain. It wasn't all bad, as there are some exemplary concierge and front desk staff; the service level across the board, however, just is not consistent enough for a four-star hotel.

With regard to the physical appearance of the hotel, while the rooms and hallways are stylish, the lobby area looks like a bad nightclub (complete with awkward DJ playing in front of empty room) and is in serious need of an elegant re-do. Similarly, though the furniture in the rooms is of a high enough quality, much of it is ridden with scratches and is in general disrepair; again, seems more like a 3- than a 4- or 5-star hotel.

Overall, our stay at the Opus was an enjoyable one and I would recommend it - it is, after all, priced at a more fair value than the city's 5-star hotels such as the Fairmont Pacific Rim or Shangri-la. The location cannot be beat, some staff members are fantastic and helpful, and the rooms are quite comfortable, despite the minor flaws.

We had a gorgeous view of that part of the city from our Juliet balcony (though some wire chairs for lounging and reading would be swell) and found ourselves comfortable and relaxed by the end of our stay.

Room Tip: 7th floor with a balcony overlooking Yaletown is really quite nice.

Dear jbartlettas,

Thank you very much for choosing to stay with OPUS and for then sending along your feedback. While we were happy to read how you enjoyed your overall OPUS experience, we were disappointed to see that we were not consistent with all of our service offerings, and wanted to extend our apologies. Regarding OPUS Bar, we are happy to pass along to you that it will be undergoing a complete revamp later this year, which we are very excited to see, and will have further details in the Fall. Hopefully we will get an opportunity to welcome you back to OPUS, at which time please contact me directly at ngandossi@opushotel.com and I would be happy to assist in anyway possible.

Sincerely
