Staff was great, and the restaurant food was quite good. Location is in the trendy Yaletown district of Vancouver, with lots to do within walking distance. However, visitors should be aware that there is ongoing construction around the property due to the underground transit line.
The hotel is modern decor, trendy, but not the luxurious elegantce of some of the other top hotels in Vancouver such as the Wedgewood, or Sutton Place. Overall the rooms are 'average', in that even in our 'deluxe' room, the carpets had some stains, and needed cleaning. The bed linens were nice, although that the duvet cover was made of a very rough material that was unncomfortable. Beds were average, not the great 'pillow-top' comfort one would expect from a hotel that is trying to be a top 'celeb' spot. So, better beds, better pillows, cleaner carpets, would be an imporvement. If you can get a 'deal' on a room, go for it, otherwise, for the money, you can do a lot better elsewhere in Vancouver.

Came to see Hip vancouver to reward a few colleagues in the Fund. Booked a chic little boutique hotel called Opus vancouver.

Cool website and word-of-mouth recommendations were a real cause of excitement to the boys flying out of london.

The GM who thought he was Ian Fleming was a real detriment to a great trip (lets leave aside the various entertainments the City can offer the world-weary traveller...)

Shame - lets hope the hotel sees sense and releases Daniel to make another movie...

I mostly have good things to say about this hotel, but had just a couple problems. The hotel is very modern, which I liked. The service
was outstanding. The location is terrific. I'm not terribly familiar with Vancouver, but it was nice to be able to park at the hotel and walk to lots of restaurants, the sea wall, etc.

The only reasons I'd suggest not staying here are temporary and specific. First, they're constructing an underground subway station right next to the Opus (the hole for the station is about a foot from
the exterior wall of the hotel, it's literally right next door). My room was on the same side as the construction, so once they started pounding at 7:00 A.M. I was awake whether I liked it or not. The desk
clerk said that the current noise level was the worst that it's been.
I think construction goes through 2009. Maybe the other side of the hotel isn't as noisy. There was no noise at night.

Second, I was there on business with a coworker and we requested separate beds. We were "upgraded" to a suite which had a king and a sofa bed, but we were told the sofa bed was a normal mattress and just as comfy. It wasn't, it was as uncomfy as any sofa bed I've slept on.

So, if you don't mind noise or the noise has subsided, and you don't need to use the sofabed, this is a great hotel.

Stayed at the opus for five nights on a recent trip around Canada and thought it was a fabulous hotel. Yaletown, in my opinion is the nicest part of the city, very clean, safe and trendy and the opus hotel fits right in. Had a superior room, which was pretty big. Loved the bed, like a big marshmallow. There was a digital temperature control panel on the wall, which when adjusted, could change the temperature in the room within minutes, meaning you always felt comfortable. There was no noise from the construction site even though it was just outside our window. Our funky green room had magazines, cd's and books lying around so the place felt like being at home, except with someone else to make your bed and wash your towels. However, it also had the essentials like a safe, and the luxuries like the big flat screen tv and fab toiletries. Ate at the restaurant - the best food and service i had during my holiday in canada. The bar gets busy at the weekend as it has cool dj's and is a great place to try a few opus cocktails. There are lots of good restaurants and bars around yaletown. The hotel is within walking distance of everything. Downtown vancouver is small and we walked to the other side in about half an hour.
The opus is a great hotel in a great location with very friendly and efficient staff. If I could afford the bill, I would move in. For the moment, however, I will just have to look forward to returning to vancouver and another few nights of luxury at the opus!

The Opus is lovely, but it's also expensive. That said, at least you get what you pay for - other hotels charge these prices but don't deliver. The rooms were great - we had the superior one - not overly spacious but fine. Chic decor - not the usual brocade and satin so beloved of top end hotels. The floor to ceiling windows in the bathroom were a bonus. The best bit was the nightly 'turn down' service - chocolates on the bed and smoochy music on the CD. Fab and kinda camp. The clientele are on the younger side - we shared the lift with a rap star (no idea who it was - we asked at reception). The hotel is near the marina and has some great eateries nearby.

Our 2 night stay at the Opus was thoroughly enjoyable. The entire hotel catered for our needs superbly, the bar is very trendy, and our Superior room was very comfortable, stylish and clean (very quiet air-con!). There were no disturbances from the nearby construction site, and even the waterfront at the northern end of downtown is only about 30 minutes walk, the furthest you would ever need to walk. The Aquabus dock for sightseeing is a five minute walk away, and Yaletown itself is a very relaxing neighbourhood to stay in. My only comment would be that the front desk & concierge seemed a little short staffed/inexperienced at peak times, perhaps more so at weekends, where waiting for luggage assistance/check in-out occasionally felt a bit drawn out for the standard of hotel the Opus is. However, we found the Opus overall to be in a class of it's own, and cannot wait to return!!

Great location for exploring Vancouver. Stayed 4 nights. Reminds me of the Home Hotel (but bigger) in BA. Hotel is small enough to feel personal and large enough to meet most traveler needs. The front desk people are friendly and helpful. Best of all is the location a stone throw from all of the best restauants. Used the hotel bicycles to ride to Stanley Park and the auqua bus to Granville island. Eat at Rodney's oyster house, Coast, Simply Thai the odd Elbow room for breakfast. Blue Water over rated and Joe Fortes too crowded and touristy. Overall Vancouver isn't cheap but is a great city for seafood and outdoor activities.
