Stayed at Comfort Inn on Nelson Street for 2 nights 01/31-02/02/14. Staff was friendly & efficient upon check-in and each time I went through lobby (early morning run, out for the day, back in the evening). There was confusion about the rate I had booked, but the girl on the front desk was able to clear up the confusion. Empowered front desk - I love that! Room was cramped, but clean and had everything I needed (including fridge). Great location, comfortable bed. There is noise, but that's to be expected based on the location. Not fancy, but what do you expect for the rate? I will definitely stay again.

Pros: central location, clean rooms, excellent internet, front desk staff you'd expect at a way more expensive hotel

cons: small rooms, noisy

If you are travelling alone or don't mind a bit of noise this is a great value. I'll definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: mac and cheese pizza from Megabite across the street

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights as a family of 3 in January, 2014.

The hotel is above an Irish pub which is very noisy every night and the disgusting smells of vomit in the morning when you leave the hotel is off putting. The hotel does not have a breakfast area as such, it uses the pub's facilities which we did not use as we had a child and due to the ridiculous Canadian rule of no one under 18 in areas where alcohol is served, we ended up across the street every morning at a café.

The location is quite good, close to public transport buses and about a 10 minute walk to the train.

Rooms are tiny, with barely enough space to walk around beds or store suitcases.

Parking is on a "first come first served" basis in an empty lot next door, we got a park each day except NY Eve, but were able to double park and the staff parked the car when a space became available for us.

There is also a huge building being constructed basically across the road so be aware you will be woken early with construction noise.

There is only one very small lift, which was impossibly slow as staff with room cleaning trolleys were often hogging the lift. It also chugged and groaned and could be heard in the room at night.

The staff were very disappointing, we wanted to ask lots of questions about where to go and what to do, they really were very unknowledgeable and unhelpful. They could not even recommend one thing to do for New Year's Eve so we ended up in our room watching television as they said there were no fireworks or outdoor family events happening.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the street and not near the lift

Allow me to apologize on behalf of our hotel for failing to meet your expectations on your recent visit. I gave this hotel a three out of five because for Tripadvisor a two rates it as poor and it isn't, but IMO it deserves a rating below average. It for sure is a value priced hotel and there is a reason. The actual location while quite central is also not the best presentation for a hotel. Our two rooms looked directly into the rooms of a hostel maybe 12 feet away. The building itself is Ok but I think it probably has a fair amount of Granville St party goers staying there. The pub downstairs is very loud and Granville st itself can become fairly rambunctious in the evenings
We had the buffet breakfast in the morning it was cheap and that's what you got
The rooms themselves were fine. They appeared clean and the bed was very comfortable
I wouldn't stay again but I prefer a little more to the facility overall and that could be my age demographic as well
Staff was very friendly and accommodating so overall not bad but reasonable for a value room

If you care about getting a decent night's sleep then this isn't the place as it's above a Irish pub that pumps music until 2am most mornings. Other than that the place was great for central location, clean and modern rooms and a great buffet breakfast option.

We stayed here on a Friday night in January, using a deal we found on beVancouver 's website. In total, WITH parking we paid $20 for the night. ;-) The parking was convenient. The staff at the desk were helpful. The room was very clean, though the smell of the old building was evident in the room. Not a bad smell, just distinct. Not a complaint. Our room was right next the stairwell & elevator shaft (#201) Which meant that alot of background noise carried up & down all night long. Nothing obnoxious. Would have asked to change rooms if we had stayed longer, though it was one of the biggest rooms (king size) The neighborhood is lively as it's on the corner of Granville and Nelson, but we heard very little street noise. Breakfast was available for $15 for 2 people at the buffet in the pub downstairs. Looked good, but we ate elsewhere. I'd recommend eating at the India Gate if you're in the neighborhood!

Room Tip: don't choose next to elevator or on granville side of building

I booked this hotel for my husband and son so they had somewhere to stay after a Canucks game. Doesn't look like much from the outside. I wasn't looking for a 5 star hotel. But we were pleasantly surprised as soon as we entered the lobby. Very clean, personable staff and the room was very comfortable. Exceptional value, great location (walking distance to the Rogers Centre and to the trendy Yaletown area). We would definitely stay there again.
