“Afternoon Tea was lovely”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

My sister's and I enjoyed a lovely afternoon sipping tea at the Fairmont Hotel. The atmosphere was very nice and the assortment of sandwiches and desserts were very good. We would definitely return for tea again.

There's little joy right now at the grand old Hotel Vancouver because the lobby floor is a mess of renovations. They've outfitted the 15th floor as a rooftop restaurant and lounge but the ceilings are so low it feels like a budget cruiseship. The rooms are okay except they're stuffy because of, I presume, outmoded ventilation systems. Maybe room reno's are next so in a few years this should be a great place to stay.

Room Tip: Wait until reno's are over.

Dear hexakali,

I'm very sorry to hear that our current renewal project at the hotel has negatively impacted your experience. It's an exciting time here at the hotel, as we celebrate our 75th anniversary and bring our beloved grand dame into the 21st century. And with the reopening of “The Roof”, we've brought back to life a legendary event/dining space on our 15th floor. Later this year, after we've put the finishing touches on our $12 million renewal project of dining, bar, and lobby spaces, I'm confident you'll fall in love with our hotel all over again.

Yours Sincerely,

Sunny Joseph

Resting on the laurels of their brand name, this hotel does zero for a memorable stay. Average rooms, above average prices and pompous feel throughout. That would be okay if it was special.
Internet service was in and out. Warned that do not rattle any bottles or move anything in the mini bar, or you would be charged.

This is a historic property in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Close to everything. Impeccable service, well appointed hotel that retains the glitz and glamour of days gone by. Genuine, friendly staff who anticipate your every need. This was my 6th stay and I will most certainly be back.

Overnight stay to attend a hockey game and enjoy the city. Hotel staff were outstanding like expected at a Fairmont property. Rooms are nice and comfortable and the location is central to everything! One downside is the pool could use an update, but outside that everything about the hotel was fantastic.

Recently stayed here for one night on the way back from Whistler. Disappointed with the old and tired state of the rooms. Overnight parking was at the rate of $38+ taxes ( came out to $50). Stayed at the Four Seasons Vancouver a wk ago on the way up to Whistler and parking was only $43 and they are only 1 1/2 blocks away in the same area. Not sure why the price of parking was inflated at Fairmont. The rooms were tired and the bathrooms very small. The restaurant in the lobby level was being renovated. Daughter enjoyed playing with the mascot dogs Mavis and Beau downstairs however the concierge where the dogs were parked next to were not particularly excited about having a kid petting the dog for any length of time. There was a problem with our bill at check out that took us speaking to two different front desk clerks about it to finally sort it out (and a little reluctantly) even though they admitted it was a mistake on their end. Will not be coming back. For the price we paid for the room and parking, we will go to another luxury brand hotel ( which there are many around the area).

I stayed at the Hotel Vancouver for 4 nights in March 2014. This is my third stay at the Hotel and always on their Gold Floor in an Executive Room. Executive Gold Rooms are slightly larger than normal rooms. The Staff at the Gold Floor Lounge were very helpful and helped make my stay memorable. The gym at the Hotel is one of the best equipped Health Clubs I have been to at a Hotel. The Hotel is well situated in the business district, a short walk to the Art Gallery and Pacific Center Mall and higher end shopping and restaurants. The Hotel Vancouver is an old Hotel with considerable charm and history. Overall a very positive experience. If planning a stay you should join their Presidents Club for further benefits.
