Yes, it is the best burger I have ever eaten. And yes, the poutine is to die for (and also likely to die from). But the beet salad with vanilla flavored goat cheese and the potato stuffed agnolotti were also superb. Very casual, reasonable prices, youn vibrant crowd. A unique Vancouver gem.

So we do go often to restaurants and do have a lot of good things to say about this restaurant. Service was good and they came to check on us enough and always in a timely manner. Place is nice and warm. Music is not too loud which is always nice when you dont feel like screaming to the person next to you... Octopus, burger, bread and the steak tartare were just so good. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Desserts were ok but not as good as the mains.

We wanted to like this place, we live in the 'hood and appreciate discovering new places to eat at and support. The staff is very friendly, and place is welcoming and comfortable, a cross between hipster kitsch & antler/woodcutter sheik which normally wouldn't interest us but they pull it off with a beautiful 'long table' to boot. The service is also very fine (the owner/host didn't charge for my meal because he forgot to ask for no hollandaise sauce on it). Unfortunately from the git-go things went awry with the food, the coffee was awful, thick and bitter, we got replacements and they were just as bad. Odd, because if they coffee was good we'd come back just for that - but there's no excuse for bad coffee nowadays. The smoked tuna and eggs in the nicoise were great but the corn bread underneath was dry and way over baked. The ribs were equally dry and tough and the potato pancakes oily and hard to chew. I could go on but this place had all the promises and not much of the follow-through. The guests on either side of us thought the same from what we could gather. Maybe try again in a year or so to see if they've improved but who knows how long they'll be around. I wish them luck and hope they improve.

The Oakwood opened in my neighborhood a little over a year ago and it didn't take long for me to become a regular. Very tough not to order the burger and poutine with house smoked beef cause they're amazing. But the rest of the menu is comparable to any fine dining in Vacouver with pretty much everything made in house. Nice beer list, small but fine wine list, cozy ambiance and incredibly friendly staff.

The service was great! And the food, oooh... It was a special mix of flavors, colors and textures. It seemed like we were eating in a high class restaurant, but for a reasonable price. I would certainly recommend it!
