“Time for Update”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

This hotel is old and it shows. I wouldn't recommend this hotel as a choice place to stay but it is cheap and it's location is second to none if you're going to BC Place or Rogers Arena.

Service was slow and the north tower needs updating and it is clearly long overdue.

We spent the first hour in Vancouver fixing problems with this hotel. They screwed up parking prices/tickets (which weren't listed anywhere) The toilet broke and wouldn't flush from one use as soon as we got there (handyman service was ok.. 20min wait) Wi-fi didn't work & when we contacted the front desk they put US through to THEIR techs to spend another 20mins on the phone to fix it. (it worked for 10mins then broke again. We had not wi-fi the whole stay). Due to the broken wi-fi we went to use the computers in the Lobby but were told you had to pay! And staff were not helpful in rectifying the issue whatsoever. The shower had cold water when we arrived and they had to check the boiler (Eventually got fixed) Fixtures were falling apart in the rooms.

After being exhausted from traveling across country, busting to pee, wanting a hot shower and wi-fi to search for activities to do while in Vancouver etc... This hotel couldnt help us at all, it distroyed me and I broke down in tears. We were offered no compensation and staff were not helpful. Don't waste your time, money or energy.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Arrived by cab at 7.30pm and as I am on crutches my wife went to checkin whilst I stayed with the luggage on the street waiting for a porter that never came. When asked the woman at reception told my wife that they were busy and someone should come soon. After some time we gave up and my wife dragged all 4 bags to our room! We were given conflicting and eventually incorrect directions re hours of operation and location of a laundry. Of our 6 calls to reception only 3 were answered and only then after long waiting periods - we like to think the best and suggest that the hotel was gravely understaffed but the staffs attitude did not infer this - they were disinterested Room was average and fair for the cost but we would never consider returning due to the lack of any form of reasonable service

The Sandman Hotel is just ok if you do not have any choice to go there.

Rooms are cramped. The beddings are dated and the AC is noizy. Make sure not to have a room in front of the big roof top AC units of other surrounding buildings. Avoid room 804.

On our bus tour of the Rockies, we stayed at both this hotel and the sister one in Calgary. They are both comfortable and value for money hotels in excellent locations right in the heart of both cities. The rooms are large and well equipped with excellent double glazing so a good night's sleep is possible. Chinatown and Gastown are walking distance, and Robson (the main shopping street) is just one street down. There are lots of nice places to eat nearby and the hop-on hop-off trolley bus even stops right outside the front door. Do walk down the hill to False Creek and get on one of the little ferry boats to Granville Island - a market experience which makes even the St Lawrence one in Toronto look small!
