Description: In 12 years Cory Weeds' Cellar Jazz Club has established itself as not only the top jazz venue in Vancouver, but as one of the top jazz clubs in the world. In an ambitious undertaking, club owner Cory Weeds bought the establishment in the summer of 2000 and quickly turned it into the premier jazz venue in Vancouver. The focus of the club was to promote Vancouver and Canadian jazz musicians. The room has seen visits by every major player from the Vancouver Scene and across Canada. In addition Weeds has brought in many of the major names on the international scene to the club either with their own band or more often then not, to join forces with the best that the Vancouver jazz community has to offer. Some of these international musicians to perform include David 'Fathead' Newman, Tom Harrell, Charles MacPherson, Benny Golson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Ed Thigpen, Kenny Garrett, Les McCann, Scott Hamilton, Joey Defrancesco, George Coleman and Eric Alexander.

When my wife and I travel we like to check out jazz clubs in each of the cities we visit. This one is quite good, it has a $20 entrance fee and the food is (surprisingly) very good; my wife can't stop raving about the "shrimp and grits" and claims it was one of the best meals during our 8 day visit. Although the room is small, Cory Weed has been successful in attracting many artists; live music is on tap every single day of the week. The night we attended a big band was playing; it was a little on the loud side, not unusual for a big band, but the sound was good. We'll be back next time we're in town.

Not only does the Jazz Cellar have Jazz but at the rare time you can also catch some Blues there. We were fortunate enough to get reservations to see the legendary Jim Byrnes there on Friday night backed up by Jesse Cahill and the Nightcrawlers. Now usually seeing either Jim Byrnes or Jesse Cachill and the Nightcrawlers is an excellent night but to see them performing together is outstanding. Now put them in the intimate setting of the Cory Weeds Jazz cellar along with an outstanding meal and service and you have a great night not soon to be forgotten. If you plan on going to the Jazz Cellar make reservations, we saw many turned away at the door because of no reservations, if you like Jazz and good food this is the place.

This is the one and only jazz club in town. Every time I have seen a performance it has been fantastic. For those who do not or have not seen a live jazz show this is a must for you. If you only see one jazz show in your life The Cellar is the place to see it.

We met friends at the Cellar this week to hear some great music and have a bite of dinner. The menu has been revamped and pared down since our last visit but the food was good, especially with a bottle of E Flat Shiraz, and the service was warm as ever. We had a great time and it was a good reminder that there is fabulous music being played here - with dinner and drinks at a really reasonable price. Well worth a visit if you haven't been in for a while.

Four of us came on a Saturday night in April to see the Taggart group. we had a groupon ($44 for 4 cover charges & 4 drinks) We enjoyed our evening and just had dessert for the night after eating at a local restaurant...of which there are TONS. We had been hoping to visit a bit, but the music made that impossible. We did enjoy our evening however. The desserts were good! The music was good, though I'd recommend a table AWAY from the stage if you can get one. reservations seemed to be required for our Saturday night arrival.
