“Something a little different”
Reviewed September 6, 2013 via mobile

After two weeks of enjoying Pacific North West cuisine, sea food and 'AAA Alberta beef' we were looking for something different on our last night in Vancover and spotted this restaurant close to our hotel. We lived in Singapore and Malaysia for some time and adore the food. Good examples are hard to come by at home in UK and this was good. We were a little disappointed by the desert choices but overall had a really good meal.

“Unforgettable Dinner”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

August 16, 2013 - I had just completed the Ride from Seattle to Vancouver & Party (RSVP) bicycle ride. 200 miles on the bicycle and looking forward to a romantic dinner with my fiancee. We were browsing restaurants in Davie street in Vancouver (BC) and stopped at the Banana Leaf restaurant: best choice of restaurant we ever made.

The place was fantastic, a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. A place where a couple can converse without distractions from the background noise. We ordered the 9 courses meal despite the crab served at the table next to our looked and smelled wonderful. We where in for a treat we will never forget.

The 9 course meal gave us a truly lucullian experience. For the modest cost of $30 (canadian $) we experience the true taste of Malaysia. Refined dishes from shrimp and scallop cooked with vegetables in a coconut broth, chicken with curry sauce, mussels, green beans, pan-seared cod, to the final serving of perfectly fried bananas with ice-cream for desert.

The portions were quite large and we could not finish all the wonderful food that was served to us.

The service was superb and the young waitress answered with surgical precision all the questions I had for her in terms of the particular spices used in each dish (cooking is my hobby so I am very inquisitive when I taste something remarkable). I was stunned that not once she had to go back to the kitchen to ask for help.

Lynn and I are already planning another trip to Vancouver in the next few months exclusively to dine at Banana Leaf.

“Great Place”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

Used to queue up at their tiny outlet on Denman Street and was glad when they opened on Davie. Wide ranging menu and good food and good service.

“Excellent service but food was average”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

The restaurant is located at a busy street, where you can find different restaurants and bars. Service was exceptionally good, she was attentive, quick to response and genuinely friendly. As for food, it's not as authentic but still delicious.
The place is also children friendly.

“Delicious Dinner on Davie Street”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We have now visited the Banana Leaf on Davie twice for Malaysian food and enjoyed both dinners. The roti canai is a must try. If you are new to this cuisine, it's a light flakey, multi-layered flat bread similar to a cross between an Indian naan and a French crepe. As well as the roti canai, two of us shared a mild curry boneless chicken with vegetables, a delectable mee goreng noodle dish, and two portions of coconut rice. The rice comes in a cone-like shape contained in a meticulously folded banana leaf. Tip: Open the rice first and use the unfolded banana leaf cover your plate before adding the other dishes. Otherwise, you might be unsure what to do with the large square leaf you will find in your hands. This order served two as generously as it was delicious. We'll definitely be back. Dinner for two with two drinks $55. The Banana Leaf is an easy 5 to 10 minute walk from the Sheraton Wall Centre and the Century Plaza Hotels on Burrard Street.
