Description: We make sandwiches that are high quality, of good value, and prepared with skill as well as heart. The essence of our food simple, fast, delicious is the foundation of Meat & Bread. Our first shop opened its doors in 2010 in the historic Gastown neighbourhood of Vancouver, Canada, and, since then, we have opened another shop in Vancouver as well as in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighbourhood and in downtown Calgary’s historic Grain Exchange building.

It's a busy restaurant with just a few sandwich choices each day and that's the beauty of it. The food is freshly prepared right in front of you as you wait along a line that moves quite fast. The sandwiches we had were excellent and unique. Put it on your list.

Great concept, simple menu, great sandwiches, communal table to eat them ate.

Basically stumbled across this place as I was walking to Gastown. I ordered the porchetta sandwich and it was excellent. Tasty meat on fresh bread. A dab of mustard to dip it in if you wanted. A shandy to drink.

Meat was juicy, tasty and the green sauce (parsley?) added to the taste.

Not a fancy place - basically one large communal table to share if you want to eat there (most do take out) but they were very good at cleaning it, removing plates etc.

I would definitely eat here again and again if I lived in Vancouver.

Had lunch here the beginning of September and found the sandwiches just average. Nothing special. Two weeks later I was in Baltimore and had lunch several days at the Lexington Market. The sandwiches there were far superior.

This was the first stop we made after checking in to our hotel. Meat & Bread was located in the Gastown area of Vancouver. We were really hungry since we had been up since 3:30 a.m. They only offered Porchetta, Meatball, Grilled Cheese and a daily special. The daily special was turkey, so we got the Porchetta and the Meatball. The Porchetta was flavorful, but not as juicy as the Porchetta sandwich we had from Salumi in Seattle. The Meatball was topped with Grana Padano, Sambal, Gremolata and it was very tasty, but I kind of got tired of it at the end and didn’t finish it up. Nice place for lunch and the line moved quickly. I really like the concept of this restaurant - they have a very limited menu that they seem to execute very well. There is usually a line out the door during lunch, which is when I went, but sometimes if you do not go in time, then they run out. The porchetta sandwich is very good, there is a nice ratio of crunchy skin and juicy meat to bite into. There is a good amount of salt on the meat, but it enhances the flavor. They usually have the porchetta as a stable feature, but then have other specials that come and go. You can check the menu on their website to see what specials they have. They have 2 locations downtown, and each location might be running a different menu each day, so if yo are picky, then I would suggest perusing their website to see their menu before you venture out. I recommend this place highly!
