Description: We make sandwiches that are high quality, of good value, and prepared with skill as well as heart. The essence of our food simple, fast, delicious is the foundation of Meat & Bread. Our first shop opened its doors in 2010 in the historic Gastown neighbourhood of Vancouver, Canada, and, since then, we have opened another shop in Vancouver as well as in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighbourhood and in downtown Calgary’s historic Grain Exchange building.

Had read all the hype and thought- how good can a sandwich be? Well, let me tell you:

Yes- the menu is limited - 3 meat choices (1 of which is a special) with soup and salad also. Food was fresh and tasty and was not just meat and bread but also had spice, flavour and mouth watering taste. The Meatball sandwich has a little spicy kick to it and the Porchetta has crackling and herbs etc. The special was turkey leg with a range of additional extras and was also recommended. So 3 choices and 3 hits from the 6 people in our group. Nobody went for the vegetarian option!

Yes it is a little pricy for a lunchtime sandwich but you cannot compare the freshness and quality to any of the chain places and if you want cheap then there are plenty of those around but you would miss the freshness.

Yes, the are a lot of staff and they are all very friendly - this may be why it is more pricey but again, if they had less staff the chances are they would be too busy to chat to you about where you are from, how your day is going etc etc

Yes, the seating is very weird, sort of a canteen row of one long table down the side and two small tables in the window area.

But do you know what for some reason it all works together. Can't put my finger on why I liked it - at the end of the day it is exactly what they say - Meat and Bread.....

Vegetarians Be Very Aware! As the restaurants name implies, this place is for Carnivores. The pork sandwich on a fresh bun was so good I didn't want to finish it. We stopped in during a 50 km bike ride. After eating we had to stretch the ride to 70 km just to break even. Highly recommended, very casual, almost like eating in an old style butcher. Hope to see more locations one day.

Came here on a Saturday for lunch. There's a small lineup for food (you order at the counter) - limited options but it all looked pretty delicious. Ordered the porchetta sandwich which was excellent. They had a big slab of cooked meat they cut it from right in front of you.

Prices were typical of downtown vancouver. Decent food with a great casual atmosphere.

Service was good and quick. Approx six personnel at the counter helping. Ordered two BBQ pork sandwich specials of the day, pork chili soup, bean salad, and two bottled drinks (orange and dandelion). Soup was best of all, but not something we would order again. Did not care for any of the rest. A $30 price tag and would not return. Three tables to sit. Don't see what all the fuss is about.

The porchetta sandwich was great but the daily special which was roast lamb was even more delicious. Simple, reasonable, no fuss meal. Should be a must stop for foodies visiting Vancouver. Downtown location closed on weekends but visited the Cambie address on a Saturday afternoon.
