Description: We make sandwiches that are high quality, of good value, and prepared with skill as well as heart. The essence of our food simple, fast, delicious is the foundation of Meat & Bread. Our first shop opened its doors in 2010 in the historic Gastown neighbourhood of Vancouver, Canada, and, since then, we have opened another shop in Vancouver as well as in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighbourhood and in downtown Calgary’s historic Grain Exchange building.

“Triple D Comes to Canada”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

We are big fans of Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives on the Food Network. Most of his episodes review US locations so we haven’t had the chance to visit anything but we make notes on some of them “just in case” we ever get to Minnesota, Texas or New York. One episode piqued our interest though and that was the one where he visited Vancouver, BC – that’s close enough for a day trip (from the OK Valley)! After dropping our daughter and her friend off at the ferry terminal on a recent mid-March Saturday, we headed into Vancouver with Meat & Bread on the GPS. We almost drove right by, even with “Samantha” directing us due to the current sidewalk construction and scaffolding on Cambie St but we got there. It’s a very small “hole-in-the-wall” with unique décor, a queue to get the looong lineup moving through quickly and one long table to enjoy your sandwich at. We stepped in the door and were greeted by the hostess, (not to mention the glorious smell of roasted pork!!), who helped us “newbies” get ourselves oriented. Not a big menu, they’ve got 3 regular sandwiches and a daily special – soup too – but, when it’s this good, a big menu just causes frustration in trying to decide! We both ordered the porchetta sandwich. They season, roast and slice the pork on site (no shrink-wrapped deli meat here!). WOW!! Great ciabatta bun, spread with salsa verde and sprinkled with cracklins – just FANTASTIC! So flavourful, so moist, so MMMM! You can even purchase a whole pork roast to take home (roasted by them or “take n’ bake” DIY). Check out the episode on YouTube (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives – Meat & Bread – Vancouver). This may just become a regular Vancouver treat….

“My favorite place for a quick bite”
Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

The food is really fresh and delicious. The service is very friendly. You can be in and out in 15 minutes. Would have got a solid 5 if they weren't out of what I picked from their menu a couple of times.

“Interesting sandwich fillings at last!”
Reviewed March 21, 2013 via mobile

Had the best sandwich I've ever had in Canada. Truly delicious. Quality filling on quality bread. None of the usual boring sandwiches here - no ham'n cheese, tuna melt. At last, sandwiches to rival those of London, UK's sandwich bars. I think this was probably the first time in Canada (10 years) I wasn't asked if I wanted cheese on my sandwich. Hoorah!
Meat and Bread can't fail to be a success.

“Look no further for lunch”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

What a tasty lunch spot! A nice small selection of yummy sandwiches with original ingredients plus soup and salad. The set up is great and the queue moves along swiftly. Will return - possibly everyday this week :)
