“Tops in Customer Service & Location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2011

The hotel's personnel exemplified the true Canadian spirit. We were super impressed with the entire friendly and helpful staff and they accommodated our every request. The location couldn't be better and is centrally located and accessible to everything downtown. The rooms are comfortable, clean and affordable - a definite recommendation!

I came to Vancouver because of business and stayed at Holiday Inn Vancouver Downtown for 1 week. The room I had was large enough, very comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The buffet serving for breakfast was ok, but not much varieties of food.
The best thing is the Location! Even the Hotel is in Downtown, but still it close to the beach and Stanely Park. Every evening I enjoy walking there! Also if u a business person and do not have much time to see the sights you can take a Trolley and the trolley stop is right in front of the Hotel.
If you would like to have dinner outside of the Hotel - Davie Street is the best place where to go, there are a lot of restaurants, bars ans clubs and more over it's 3 min to walk.

If I visited Vancouver again, I will chose Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Vancouver Downtown!

We (wife and 2 yr old daughter) stayed here to attend a wedding for the weekend. Location convenient within downtown and major arterials, although at night the neighborhood didn't seem all that inviting. Our room was a bit tight for a family of 3 and the layout was a bit awkward, our daughter's crib barely fit in an area right by the bathroom door and front door. Weird. The room was sparsely furnished and amenities were very minimal. The sink was terribly small! Actually, the entire bathroom was small. Closets didn't have a door a poorly lit. We had breakfast at the hotel's restaurant. The service was excellent, the waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating. The food, however, was sub par and expensive. I recommend eating outside of the hotel, you'll find a lot of good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Bottom line, the hotel has very friendly staff, the entire place seems well-maintained and clean. However, the rooms are not very spacious and comfortable. it's not a place I would recommend. For how much we paid, we could've stayed at a better hotel.

Room Tip: For a quieter room, ask for a higher floor away from the Howe St. side.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad to hear your enjoyed our service and that the location was convenient. I will review your comments about our breakfast with my team. I'm surprised about your concerns about the size of our rooms as most are much larger than newer hotels. However, there are some that are on a corner and have a different layout, and are more suitable for couples or single travellers. For future stays, our King Superior rooms are extremely spacious and can easily and comfortably accommodate a crib. Thank you,
Suzanne Allemeier, General Manager

Short and sweet:

- Very convenient location.

- Friendly, helpful front desk staff (kudos for their willingness to double as concierge - they took the time to go over area map with me)

- Decrepit building. Despite a light "refreshing", this hotel hasn't been keep up in a thousand years. Not sure who operates this Holiday Inn, but it ranks in the bottom 5% of chain hotels I've encountered (I stay 100+ nights per year across multiple chains).

Would I return? Only if they were the only game in town. And not for a penny over $120/night.

This building should be razed. Shame on Holiday Inn for allowing their name to remain on such a disgraceful building.

I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed our great staff and location (most of our guests do!), and sorry to hear your opinion about our hotel. This building is a French Colonial Brick building, so has a very historical appearance. I agree that our building is not new, the entire hotel interior and elements of the exterior were renovated less than 8 years ago, with all new furnishings and decor. In addition, this hotel was the first in Canada to be rebranded with the new Holiday Inn bedding and bath package, service plan and "look and feel" three years ago. Lastly, this hotel meets or exceeds all international Holiday Inn brand standards and requirements. Thank you, Suzanne Allemeier, General Manager

I stayed at this Hotel for two nights - 10th and 11th August 2011.

The hotel, although downtown is not in a very salubrious area and not centrally downtown. It was extremely expensive (peak period) and I would have rather put in the extra and stayed in a better hotel in a better area.

For almost $300 per night for one person, the room did not have a kettle (it has a small coffee machine) and no bar fridge.

The room was clean and spacious, but needs updating, especially the bathroom. However, it was perfectly acceptable with comfortable bed and reasonably quiet, although many reviewers found the hotel to be noisy.

Staff were good to not great.

Dinner menu very average and buffet breakfast also very average.

I would not stay there again as I felt it was not value for money.

Thank you for your comments. As your stay coincided with the largest citywide convention in Vancouver this year, room availability was in peak demand. I'm surprised your room did not have a kettle as all our rooms are stocked with one. Half our rooms are equipped with fridges (premium room types) and we also have fridges available for guests on a first come basis. I will make sure the hotel team reviews the remainer of your comments to ensure the highest level of quality is consistently met. Sincerely, Suzanne Allemeier

I had a suite , which was lovely. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable and pleasantly decorated. Room service was prompt and courteous, and the food was excellent. Staff at check-in and check-out were efficient and cheerful. I would stay there again without hesitation.
