“Would definitely not stay here again”
Reviewed November 3, 2009

- unfriendly host
- dated furniture, surprised not to see or get bed bugs
- breakfast was a wee piece of cantaloupe, an egg with bits of cheese spread over it, and 2 pieces of toast - not what to expect for $80 a night!
- whole place needs to be updated and some money actually spent on it
- this place takes the name "bed and breakfast" literally - that's all you'll get.

We had an excellent time at this B&B, which offered a fabolous location being close to shops, restaurants, bars, beach, etc..etc...Breakfast was lovely and nice attentions from host.
Well recommended.

The B&B on itself it's not bad, but we had a very tiny room on the last floor under the roof which we didn't aspect looking at the picture on their web site. We would have preferred to be informed when they confirmed our reservation in order for us to decide to look for something else or not. We had the feeling of being caught in trap, because when you have few days to spend in a foreign city there is not much time to go around to search for an alternative. Our suggestion is to make clear in your reservation that you don't want the rooms under the roof.

The location of this B&B is perfect - close to Kits Beach etc. Rooms were what you would expect for an old Victorian - basic but comfortable, older bathroom but everything worked and it was certainly clean. We found the hosts to be friendly, and not in your face. Breakfast both days was amazing. You do have to time your breakfast though as they cannot seat all guests at the same time. But we only had to wait around 10mins the first day and about 5 mins the second day. Excellent value for money. We were very lucky to score the room for two nights after a last minute cancellation, and only when another B&B owner that was full phoned Kim to see if he could fit us in. Thankfully he could! We would stay here again without question.

The location cant be beat - close to kits beach, Granville, 4th ave shopping and just a short drive to downtown. Breakfast was always tasty and vegetarian ( a plus for us). The room was small but perfectly nice. The bathroom was a bit run down, but not horrible. Other posts complained about the noise and the awkwardness of the host, but we did not experience either. There was a little noise from the street, but I wouldn't call it noisy. Kim the host was very pleasant and easy going. It was a nice, convenient and inexpensive b and b.

We stayed here suring our honeymoon, and what a disappointment. The location is the best part of staying there, but it is in a busy and noisy part of town. There is no parking for guests, as the house has one space which the owner uses.

When I made my reservation Kim, the 'host', got the date wrong twice! When we arrived, it was very awkward, he didn't introduce himself or welcome us in. In fact, he looked surprised to see us. We were shown our room, which was very basic, and not clean.

We never saw Kim again during our stay, except when he wanted his money.

Breakfast was terrible. We came down for bfast and you don't really know what to do. No one was around, and no food was around either. Then Kim appeared with a pot of tea. OJ was rationed to little more than a thimbleful. He brought out sausage, tiny piece of bread and beans. We expected a second course of fruit or pastries or at least some cereal, but after 20 mins gave up and reaslied that must be all we were getting! It would have been helpful to know what to expect.

The problem is Kim treats you as though you are an inconvenience and in the way, and does his best to avoid you.

I would never stay here again, and would not recommend the place to anyone.

The guest expected a 4 star honeymoon B&B at 2 star travellers B&B prices.
Maple Beach Bed and Breakfast offers clean, comfortable rooms in a 100 year old Victorian house in the best neighborhood{Kitsilano} in the most beautiful city in the world. Most top tourist spots are within half hour walk or minutes drive. They include Kits Beach Park [2 blocks], Granville Island [6 blocks] , downtown [20 minute walk] ,Stanley Park [30 minute walk] UBC [10 minute drive]. All rooms but one have private baths, cable TV,alarm clocks and fridges. As well, we have two parking spaces reserved for guests plus there is lots of safe, free ,street parking. We also have free wired and wireless internet service and free local phone calls.
We serve a full hot breakfast consisting of an egg entre',toast and a slice of fruit with a 5 ounce orange juice plus tea or coffee. Guests on specail diets are made whatever they require. We have never served a breakfast of beans, sausage and bread. Perhaps this guest is confused since she wrote her review 11 months after she stayed here.
All our reservations are confirmed by emails and credit card deposits since May/05. Also, breakfast has been served by my fabulous girlfriend Paty since April/05. She also handles most of the guest hostessing as she is much more charming and attractive than I am.
Maple Beach B&B is not frilly and full of antiques but it is clean and comfortable. We do not serve gourmet breakfasts but we serve a hot and tasty home style breakfast. We do not try to entertain you but we try to be friendly and helpful. We do not charge $250.or more per night . Most rooms are $130. per night in high season and $85. in low season and the rates have not increased in 10 years.

We recently stayed at the Maple Beach B&B and had a strange, but ok experience. This B&B is in a great location, close to everything. When I called Kim to make the reservation, he told me we would have a queen bed in the white room. When we arrived, it was very awkward, he didn't introduce himself or welcome us in. In fact, he looked surprised to see us. I introduced myself and my boyfriend and he looked like he was a deer stuck in the headlights. He made some comment about how we didn't call ahead, however, I had an email confirmation in my hand-and it was never explained that I should call or else he would give my room away. He showed us to our room, "here's your room"-it was the blue room....here's your private bathroom...in the hallway?! On the phone he told me it was en-suite (in the bedroom). Clearly, he wasn't expecting us and gave our room away when we didn't call. Ok, fine..the room was clean and nice so we didn't mind.

It is an understatement to say that he is quiet...we never saw him during our whole stay...he never says more than a few words..and that's only if you ask him a question..if you can find him. The shower had a basket of empty or near empty bottles of shampoo and soap. In fact, there was NO soap. A cornucopia of nothing.

Breakfast....we came down for bfast...and you don't really know what to do. We sat in the dining room...but no food, no Kim. Kim appeared with a pot of coffee. The tables were set with tiny glasses of OJ at each setting. He brought out blueberry pancakes which were good. But then he disappeared. That was it. The problem really, is that he is not a very warm host. Everything seems like a secret. He doesn't tell you anything...how breakfast works, when they change towels (every 2 days....4 days for us after I asked)...where to find him if you need anything. And didn't seem to be very honest about the room situation.

We met another couple who originally had 2 rooms, but because they didn't call..he gave 1 room away. He needs to explain his policy better on his website.

All in all, it was fine. The rooms were very clean and nice. Luckily we had a parking space..there seems to be only one. Had we shown up any later...he probably would have given that away too.
