Great location. Rooms fine and generally clean and tidy. Would recommend the hotel due to it's proximity.

The Granville Island Hotel is a great little place to stay if you don't want the big city experience, and you like walking out your door to the marketplace, coffee shops, galleries and outdoor spaces that surround you on this interesting island. We often visit Vancouver to see family, and decided to stay someplace different. We love going to Granville Island, but never have enough time to explore all of the nooks and crannies of this interesting place.

The hotel is showing some signs of age, but the truly wonderful restaurant, cheery staff, and easy access to the city make this a hotel that every Vancouver visitor should try at least once.

It rained all four days that we were there in mid-July, which is fairly unusual for this time of year. As they say there "No worries", because you could duck in and out of the little shops and galleries without getting too wet, and when a real downpour came as we were dressed up and heading into the city, we were offered a huge umbrella by the staff, which we kept until check out.

Please do try the restaurant. The food was superb, and the atmosphere is wonderful - right on the water. We heard from friends that it is really wonderful when you can sit outside.

Also, there is a brewery on site, and some of the beers were great. Maybe do a taste test first.

So, I would recommend this hotel for its unique location and friendly staff. The bed was quite comfortable, but the A/C a bit noisy. No worries....

Overall the hotel is okay, the rooms can be on the small side for two people. The staff were very nice and eager to please. The restaurant is very good. The main problem is that the management needs to decide if this is a restaurant with a few rooms attached or a hotel with a restaurant and market accordingly. What makes me say that? Well, entering the hotel you see a large reception desk in front of you, it turns out that is the reception for the restaurant, the hotel reception is tiny and tucked away around the corner. They have no separate room for safe deposit boxes so you have to open your box at the reception desk in view of all. The only place guests can relax and have a quite drink is the restaurant lounge bar, which on 3 out of the 6 days we were there was closed to guests for a private convention. IMO the management put the restaurant above the hotel and they should be open and honest about that to their guests. Be aware that this is not a downtown hotel, to get to downtown you have to use the aquabus (2.50 CAD single trip) and walk for 10 minutes and the aquabus's stop around 10pm , after which you need to use a cab. We knew this in advance but some people were unpleasently suprised by this.

Hotel is O.K. but way overpriced. Staff were courteous. Room was clean although we did find the in room coffee maker to be dirty and as a consequence did not have coffee in the room. Staff did provide free coffee to take with us when we complained. The island and the hotel are tourist traps and have very little to offer unless you like going to the market on the island which again was merely o.k. If you are driving, my suggestion is to stay at the Vancouver Metrotown Hilton . Great hotel, good value for the money ( saved $ 80.00 a night compared to granville island hotel) close to largest shopping mall in Canada, free self parking when staying at the property.(paid $12.00 at granville.) courteous and friendly staff . Very clean rooms. Will return if visiting Vancouver again.

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at the Granville Island Hotel as part of a 5 night trip to Vancouver. I lchose this hotel for its unique location - on the water, near the market and near the Kitsilano neighborhood.

We arrived late on our first night and were happy to find the lively Sand Bar restaurant for a tasty fish dinner. I went for a couple fantastic runs each morning from the hotel, west along the water and into Jericho Park. It was nice to have the public market so close, for breakfast pastries and coffee.

We didn't eat in the hotel, so I can't comment on the restaurant, but after dinner one night we sat outside on the restaurant terrace, which was really nice and relaxing.

Our room was a bit small, but not terribly so. It was reasonably clean, but showed its age, for sure. Service (front desk and housekeeping) was not outstanding, but completely satisfactory. All in all, I think the rooms are a bit over-priced, but I'm not too disappointed, considering the location. I was happy to have 2 nights here, then move to a less expensive hotel downtown.

Stayed for 4 nights in August 06 and was impressed from the 1st minute of my arrival. Having just come off a very long flight from Australia I arrived well before regular check in time but was shown to my room straight away. Very pretty outlook over the harbour.
Good points:
Very welcoming atmosphere
Room was very clean & well appointed
Room service was promt & food was great same as restaurant
Best Mini bar selection of my whole trip lots of local treats
Very close to the great Granville Island Markets (1-2 min walk)
Very good service from all staff
Close to Aquabus which takes you into downtown Vancouver (a bit of a hike uphill to get into town)
Free internet access for guests there is one computer in lobby so you somtimes have to wait for another guest to finish but it is rare to find free access
The Beer brewed on site was pretty good

Disappointing points:
Was not on the pick up list for day trips but it is very quick & cheap trip into Vancouver to meet up with a trip. The Big Bus hop onhop off goes fairly close to the hotel (5-7 min walk)

Live Music played most nights from Restaurant which while very good when you have a full day and want to sleep it would go until about midnight.

Would recommend to any traveller

We had an awesome experience. We arrived a little late on Xmas day after a troublesome time with the car rental company (Budget did not have a car for me despite having a valid reservation).

The hotel staff was friendly and upgraded me to the penthouse. The room had outstanding views. My kids thought they were in heaven with such a large suite.

We had our Xmas dinner at the hotel and even though it was a little pricey, we had a nice dinner. The desserts were outstanding as well as the service.

The best part of the hotel is being able to walk to the Public Market where you can find everything you need to prepare a wonderful meal (like a picnic with wine, cheese, bread, fruits, meats, etc) or you could just eat at the many food stalls.

We had a car, so we were able to drive to many places in Vancouver like Stanley Park, Canada Place, Chinatown, Robson Street, Yaletown, etc.

My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay and we love the atmosphere of the public market.
