There are lots of choices in downtown Vancouver, but none have the waterfront setting, proximity to the aquabus and false creek ferries, and the sunniest breakfast venue, combined with easy access and very reasonable parking (412 - unlike the $43 I paid at the Pan Pacific!). Delightful staff. Downside is the through the wall heating and cooling which is noisy. The renovation has updated the rooms to current standards, but they are small. Definitely will be back.

Room Tip: The hotel has an unusual layout so work with the staff to get a room with a good view.

Vancouver is a stunning waterfront city with ample lodging choices...but Granville Island is truly unique. The island boasts a fantastic farmer's market (unlike anything we've seen throughout the Pac NW), and lots of other stores, a theater, an arts school and restaurants. The fact that there is a lovely hotel in the midst of all of this is too good to be true. The staff is friendly and helpful; the rooms are a little dated, but still nice; but the location cannot be beat!

We had a corner room that overlooked small housing on the water and something that looked like a small tug. The room/bath was better than expected. It was Christmas and a huge local crowd came in for the holiday brunch. The restaurant coffee was great. When we weren't eating with our family, we often ate at the hotel restaurant and it was just fine. Location was perfect for visiting our family and have spent lots of time in Vancouver, but proximity to Granville Market area and good central location for visiting other areas make this be a great place to stay for a first time visit. Not sure if it was because of the time of year, but the low cost was a great surprise.

Stayed here overnight for work. Fantastic rooms, great service, and the restaurant in the hotel is great too! Definitely have nothing to complain about here. And the price was very reasonable.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, so management should give them some praise.

We had a party of eight comming into Vancouver to attend the boat show, Jan 25th, for one night. We all had arrived there early, and one of the rooms was ready which was not an issue. We took most of our luggage to the room which was ready and then we were going off to the boat show and check in later that day. We got in the elevator and it almost made it up to the 3rd floor and then stopped midway and nothing and then proceeded back down and stopped between floors. The girl was able to here that the elevator was stopped and told us that they would have to call the elevator maintence company. So we waited and then, waited and finaly one of the guys pryed open the doors and we were able to get out, only 3 to 4 foot jump down to the reception desk area. Well, the girl behind the reception desk basically told us that we could not get out of the elevator, and said that it was all our fault! Not a" sorry this happened to you, is everyone all right, can I get anyone medical attention" , nothing but blamed us!
So we all went to the boat show and came back to check in, about 6-6:30. Well now theres a man behind the desk, my husband and one of the others in our party approached the desk and waited until he finnished on the phone. My husband was just about to speak, the phone rang and the man just answered it! He did not acknowledge my husband with a i will be one moment, sorry , not even when he hung up the phone, no appology, nothing! With all that happened with the elevator and now this one of the other party spoke up and said she was quite upset and he basically said nothing, very condesending attude and voice. My husband has since been in contact with the manager. I give excellent customer service at my job, and expect the same. I will never stay there again and have advised others as well as this experience! It was eight of us that had this experience and all will be passing this along to others. I say shame on the Granville Island Hotel customer service!!!! I'd be fired if I gave that sort of service.

Room Tip: Go to the Pinacle in North Vancouver!!!!

Good Morning Denise,
Thank you very much for sharing your hotel experience. I am very disappointed to hear that it was not a positive experience. For both the hotel and the guests it is very frustrating when elevators malfunction - but from time to time this does happen. For safety reasons the hotel is not allowed to pry elevator doors open as it is not safe. The hotel did reset the elevator which quite often releases the doors but as this did not work we had to escalate the issue and call the elevator company for assistance (The elevator people had arrived within 15 min of the elevator getting stuck). Our desk clerk did not intend to imply that the elevator getting stuck was your fault - she was genuinely concerned about getting you and your friends out of the elevator and making sure everyone was ok. We do train our staff to provide only the best level of customer service so I do apologize if this training did not come across.
I appreciate your feedback regarding the front desk not properly acknowledging guests standing at the desk while on the phone. Your feedback led us to review our phone policies with all the staff.
Again, I do apologize for the issues you faced while at the hotel. While I cannot change the experience you had, I do hope that you will visit the hotel again.
Thank you and please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or comments.
Sincerely,

Christine Louden

You stay at the Granville Island Hotel for the setting: the Granville Market and False Creek. Our room was small (as expected) but we enjoyed a (tiny) deck overlooking False Creek and a small park on the SE corner of the Island. This is not really a hotel for hanging around inside - the public spaces are modest (although there is a pretty happening dinner/cocktails scene at the on-site restaurant) - but rather a jumping off point to explore Granville Market and points beyond. It's easy to grab the Aquabus across the Creek - we had a fabulous walk along the path by English Bay up to Stanley Park. Parking was surprisingly easy in designated spots in the public lot adjacent to the Hotel. This would not be your destination of choice if you want to be close to downtown or Stanley Park or are looking for a super-deluxe property, but I'd definitely recommend it for a classic Vancouver experience.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the restaurant deck are probably noisy

Great views from room 216. Super clean everything, amazing shower, very comfortable bed. Amenities are generous. Location is terrific...close to downtown without the crazy parking fees there, proximity to UBC is excellent, a couple of nice restaurants nearby on the Island if change is needed (the hotel restaurant is excellent) and the staff are friendly and helpful. I always come back if possible.
