Granville Island Hotel

I stayed here for two days while en route to the Okanagan Valley.

From the outside it looks pretty ordinary but once you get past that and the lobby, the rooms are very comfortable although quite small. Excellent beds and linens made for a good sleep. TV had BBC which is always a bonus! The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful

The gym was being renovated but the hotel provides access to a public one a few mins walk away. Its nothing fancy but has a great range of weights and cardio equipment as well as an area for stretching - overall much better than most hotel gyms but without the fancy spa etc attached

The Granville Island location seems a bit isolated but in fact many shops and restaurants on 4th avenue are within 10 minutes walk. There's also a great indoor farmer's market on the island itself along with some good restaurants and a few bars

We spent the weekend after a cruise up the coast from Los Angeles. A perfect way to unwind. The room was lovely with a balcony overlooking the street. Service was excellent and the food outstanding. The is island is full of quaint shops, working artist studios and a huge indoor market. Didn't want to leave!

booked the executive suite directly with the hotel. The room(s) was spacious but on the basic side. Staff was fine, nothing usually to report either way. Parking was a problem as there are not enough spaces. Liked the location, liked the size of the room, and thought the value was good.

I've stayed here many times, and each time it gets better. There are many hotels described as "bijoux". "character" or similar , which sort of means that you have to like the odd smell and peeling wallpaper. However, this one is truly unique and classy, and the location is probably the best in Vancouver. If you don't know, Granville Island is the place to be for art galleries, markets, pubs and restaurants, and thus this place makes a great place for the first time visitor to the city. You wake up with views to drool over, and can walk around the island and it's markets in an hour or so.

The hotel per se is built around a brewery and retains some of this old world charm Each room is unique, and I strongly recommend upgrading to a suite with a view over the water and the city. There is a re-furbished bar and restaurant, and an open patio off the bar area for use in the hot summer.

Along with the Westin Bayview and Fairmont Hotels, this hotel is probably the best for first time visitors to the city, simply on the basis of the views, class and cleanliness. One huge "plus" is the fact that you can call for a reservation and you actually speak to someone on the front desk, and not some automaton in a central booking agency. This means that you can ask about the pros and cons of each room and get that extra personal touch. You can also get some deals and special offers this way, and...even if that doesn't work...you can always promise a bunch of flowers for the staff if they upgrade you!

Parking can be a bit tight at weekends, so take advantage of the valet parking, please. And sadly this hidden gem of a hotel is getting quite popular with weddings and parties at weekends (well, just LOOK at the views!), so on my last three visits there the bar was shut in the evening for a "Private Function". It just means you have to sample the Island's other watering holes, which ain't so bad, really.

That aside, I will always try and return here three or four times per year. Foreign friends always rave about their time there (especially in the Winter times when the rates are MUCH cheaper!)

OUTSTANG in every (good) way. Sadly didn't try the pol or spa so can't comment!

Room Tip: Ring the front desk to book and get advice. I like the suites that overlook the water and the city.

I have stayed at this hotel for week-long business commitment several times, the last being two months ago and am booked for that purpose next.week. In the meantime, my wife and I stayed to be close to a grandson who was in critical care at nearby Childrens' Hospital. In all cases I have found the staff to be very understanding and accomodating to our business and personal needs, previding flexibility in accomodaions when requiree.

The hotel is a perfect place to explore the delights fo Vancouver, including nearby Granville Island and we will return in the future just for the purpose to experience those delights.

We find the staff to be very personable, friendly and helpful.

I was there for a weekend conference. The room was comfortable and the staff very helpful. It would have been nicer to have a water view, but registered late and was happy to be able to stay on the island.

Room Tip: Try to get a water view

We actually live in North Vancouver but bought a deal for dinner a comedy show and a night at this hotel. The hotel is in a great area on Granville Island, it is clean, quiet and very friendly staff. The dockside restaurant has very good food. We are glad we had a chance to stay here as when we have friends from out of town, we will recommend this hotel.
